My Personal Opinion I don't think I've come across any kuey teow th'ng in KL that offers pork intestines and coagulated blood as an option. I've only had it with shredded chicken, fish balls and fish cake so far. I read that this is an authentic version of Penang kuey teow th'ng though there's also another version that comes with duck meat and duck blood too it seems. If you like a good kuey teow soup, this is a contender.....innards or not! ^.^

Better to get a seat in-side the kopitiam near the Tea-preparation area away from the stalls as all the hot air from the dozen or so stalls get cooped-up around the "outdoor" seating area, with fans seems to blowing from all directions.

Overall, Restaurant Kong Sai is indeed an all-rounder. Everything was good from the steamed chicken to the steamed soup to the dai chau items at value for money prices. The two shoplot restaurant seems to always have lots of customers in a neighborhood full of competitors, a strong testament to their good quality food.

Chicken (1 pax portion) with a small rice at MYR 5 nett only. They put a lot of coriander, spring onion and preserved radish - Chai Poh (菜脯) on top of the very smooth steamed chicken. The chicken rice is tasty too.

The highlight for me was, of course, my favourite dish on the planet – squid. Deep fried with salt and pepper, each piece was coated in a thin crispy layer rather than being overwhelmed by batter. The salt and pepper + spring onion/chilli mix really gave it that extra kick.

Deep fried squid at MYR 36.63 nett. The portion of each dish is quite big and taste is quite good. I was not thirsty afterwards so no or not much MSG detected. This is our start work (hoi kong) meal paid from our own pockets for ourselves for this new oink oink year!

The restaurant may seem simple with little decoration but it's always full house. The reason could be that you can't find the various traditional Hainanese delicacies that are sold here. The Choy Poh Egg may seem like an ordinary dish, but it is a signature dish that the owner is proud of. The preserved radish is hidden under the soft egg white, and the texture is a smooth and soft with a hint of saltiness. The Braised Potato with Pork is another signature dish that should not be missed. Even when you are full, you can't help but ask for more.

Lim Mee Yoke’s much talked about Penang-style prawn mee deserves every single good review it receives. The soup is robust, full of prawn flavor and more importantly does not taste like it was sweetened with sugar. The additional toppings are worth the money paid too considering the pork ribs and prawn slices cost only an extra RM3.50 and RM2.50 respectively.

Normally when we go to eat at Ribs King, PJ, we would order the rice dishes but this time I had the chicken mushroom wanton noodle at MYR 7.50+ (6% GST = MYR 7.95 nett). Taste quite acceptable.

This Mustard Greens Stew dish (MYR 9.90 nett for a small portion) is known by the name "Suen Lat Choy" (Cantonese for Sour Hot Vege - literal translation) or Chai Boey (Hokkien for Vege End/Leftovers - literal translation). In this pot, there are chicken feet, kiam chai (pickled mustard greens), gai choy (mustard greens), dried chilies, and slices of dried tamarind (assam). Very appetising so my two friends who shared this dish, ate a full bowl of rice each. I did not taste it because my friend told me that it is spicy.

So I went for a large plate of shrimp chee cheong fun (RM7). The dish did not disappoint, as the slightly translucent rolls had a nice, chewy texture to them, and the sambal had a definite kick. I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve ever tasted coz the sauce was a little too oily + the shrimps were small, but it was tasty nonetheless. I’d rate it an 8/10!

Our stalls of choice are still the one dealing in steam fish and fish head noodles and the fiesty grand ol' lady's lor bak stall with the best (and our favourite) yam cake. We also wanted to add on our latest find which is the nasi lemak that's-so-lemak-it's-bonkers at the front of the shop but we couldn't find it on our later visits. But then the new beef ball noodles stall gives us another good option here.

Whenever Hokkien Mee is mentioned, there are a handful of familiar names that usually come up. Some of the more established ones are Kim Lian Kee, Damansara Uptown and Ah Wah. Having tried the former two, I thought I’d drop by Ah Wah to see how it fares with the others. Since this is reputed to be one of the best in PJ, my expectations was high.

My lunch - tofu, bittergourd and brinjal stuffed with fish paste at MYR 1.50 nett each. This eatery has porridge in its menu too but I did not buy any as I don't feel like paying MYR 5.80 nett for a bowl of porridge so after eating these 3 pieces, I walked to O&S eatery and bought 2 rolls of popiah without any sauce at MYR 2.30 nett each as takeaway.

The first time I came to B & Best restaurant was about 6 years ago. Even though their Teochew seafood noodle and fish cakes were good, I didn’t really bothered to return. I think I was more interested in food that offers more exciting flavors back then. Now that I am not that young anymore, I am starting to develop appreciation for lighter and finer tasting food like seafood noodle. Besides, it would be interesting to see how B & Best fare against Pong Kee and Soon Kee.

Ask anyone who stays in the neighborhood of SS2 (Petaling Jaya) for an inexpensive, quick and comfortable place for Zhu Char (Chinese Stir Fry dishes), New Paris Restaurant is probably one of the names most mentioned. The long-established Chinese home-styled restaurant has been there for long and has since, earned its reputation for being one of the best Chinese restaurants around. Nestled within the housing area, the restaurant occupies 3 units with a huge signage can be easily spotted from far. The place is huge and could easily accommodate diners in large groups, air-conditioned seats are available too. The Cantonese-styled menu is large and reasonably priced (in the context of Klang Valley's living standards).

If you have been watching this space for a while now, you probably already know how much of a fanatic I am for upmarket Chinese food. Just when I thought I have found another great one in the market according to INVITED REVIEWS, I am here to debunk it! Dao Xiang specialises in Shunde Cuisine. I have tried another Shunde cuisine before and I thought the copper bowl concept was pretty interesting because the food was extremely aromatic, but not enhanced. It's just pure goodness of the ingredients used.

My Personal Opinion Since this is such an old name specialising in Ipoh sar hor fun, perhaps the standard isn't as good as they were back then. Nothing from the hor fun to the soup base to the prawn wontons to the poached chicken I cared for really. The environment of an old and dated shop with a slightly dark and not-so-clean interior didn't help it one bit.

The first entree was Roasted duck skin with black truffles and fresh fruits. This was a killer combo; so kudos to the chefs! The crispy duck skin had a melt-in-the-mouth layer of fat underneath, while the meat was tender and had none of the gamey flavour duck is notorious for. The bed of fresh fruit with a dusting of truffle was earthy, sweet, rich and refreshing at the same time.

One of my favorite things from this set is the dessert, the Chilled avocado pudding with citrus lemongrass sauce. Smooth and creamy, absolutely delish.. it's a must-try!
