Breakfast for 2 before going to work. I had to finish the croissant after my friend took a bite because she does not like the taste of butter in it. She did not expect it to have butter as it was supposed to be a ham and egg croissant, with no mention of butter whereas I am indifferent to it.

Battery Acid Club Restaurant

The space is light and airy, with almost a gallery feel to it (understated for the compelling curious to shine). The set up is pretty minimal, with a coffee bar on one side and a set of seatings on the opposite, however, what is inspirational is that BAC thrives to be a well-sited social destination, by having a genuine rapport with the public, and become a resource centre and a hub for creative minds to network.

Tomato Pesto Pasta, 18 ringgit + Shrimps, 6 ringgit. It does not matter of you dislike tomato, do give this dish a try. A MUST try. It was utterly delicious. If you dislike tomato, worry not. You wont be able to see/taste much of it. Push it aside, for all I care but do give this a try. Also, the paata by itself does not come with shrimps but add on 6 ringgit and do get those shrimps. It was fresh and well cooked, totally da bomb. Loved the flavors the pasta offered, not too spicy, a little crunchyness scattered here and there. Yum yum.

That cake though …. da bomb!! I mean, it sure was finger licking good. If you are a fan of ‘pandan’ – you’d certainly love this. Before the cake even reaches your table, you would be able to smell the tempting, distinct aroma of the pandan. Then, when it finally arrives at your table, digging into it and savoring it… yuuuuuummmmmm. I was instantly in love. The taste of ‘Gula Melaka” was evident too. Unlike cakes at most other cafes, whereby the gula melaka is often just a sprinkle/drizzle on the top, here, it comes with a generous layer. The cake itself, over all, was soft and moist. The grated coconut on the top was an excellent addition as it provided a difference in texture. I’d certainly give this cake a go again.

The cafe’s signature is their grilled chicken chop with coffee sauce. It may sound like an odd combination, but the sauce has a nice coffee aroma to it and a slightly bitter tang which cuts through the creaminess and binds all the flavours together. Pork wine noodles at MYR 8.50 nett. The wine is served separately in a small bowl. The porky parts such as liver and kidney have acceptable taste but the broth is just clear soup, not pork bone broth. I first chanced upon this café when I saw it on the list of vulcanpost's "6 Weird Names of Actual Cafes in the Klang Valley". I'm not sure if the name was selected on purpose (with a cheeky double meaning *wink wink*) but I read (in the Star papers) that the owners explained that someone suggested "morning" and the café has a wooden interior...and that's how the name came to be. In fact, the cheeky names extend to their menu too (as you'll see later).

If you feel like having breakfast from a faraway land – like Tunisia, for example – you can. Their breakfast menu is inspired by dishes around the world so you can go Norwegian, American, Tunisian, European, Mediterranean or Atlantic. Most of the breakfast items are variations of eggs, bread and vegetables. Still in their trial and testing stages, some of the items on the menu will be removed, but not the Nero di Seppia, a pasta dish with squid ink sauce and sautéd squid with sliced garlic and tomato. Portions are also fit for sharing.

So I went for a large plate of shrimp chee cheong fun (RM7). The dish did not disappoint, as the slightly translucent rolls had a nice, chewy texture to them, and the sambal had a definite kick. The Salted Egg Yolk Carbonara (RM 22.90) is a decent choice too. It uses thinner type of spaghetti noodles to allow more surfaces coated by the salted egg yolk and cream. You may be expecting a strong and bold taste of salted egg yolk but surprisingly the taste is rather mild. Mushrooms and cauliflowers were used to top the pasta.

You may have to spend around RM20 per pax for a meal here if you order their char siew separately by portion sizes. If you find the prices too steep, then go for a more reasonably priced plate of char siew rice. Though this place has been around for 7 years now, I don't know if the standard is still the same as when they first started (since this is my first visit) but it definitely has a place (in my books) among some of the top-notch char siew I've had over the years.
