Nonetheless, we had no qualms paying RM8.00 for this dish as it tasted delicious. The fried chicken smelled robust and had a crispy texture on the outside while remaining juicy and tender on the inside. The chicken was also incredibly fresh as the kakak constantly fried and refilled the fried chicken tray.

Man, the fried tenggiri fish is da bomb. Do give it a try if you haven’t already. The price of the fish varies according to the size of the fish, so if you want a bigger piece of fish, do head on over to the frying pan and choose the fish you’d want them to fry for you. This seriously is delicious. If I was not watching my calories, I would order another one. The chicken varuval was equally as yummy. Usually, you would get quite a lot of bones accompanying the meat, as in the bits and pieces that accompanies the dish on a plate, sometimes you would get meat and some times bones. The bones kindda makes up a whole piece, with no meat on it. Here though, every piece has meat on it. Yay!

The butter chicken is a mild, creamy curry, so it's perfect for kids and for those who can't take food that is too spicy. Rogan josh is my personal favorite curry; chunks of tender mutton in an aromatic curry. Our meal here brought back so many good memories of our days enjoying a good Indian meal in the UK.

Curry Leaf's signature curry fish head is good for a party of 4 or 5. I was quite surprised at the generous portion and I love the amount of eggplant and okra in it. This dish alone is sufficient to go without the banana leaf rice; thick flavourful gravy accompanied with fish and vegetables. An alternative would be the claypot fish curry, for those who prefer to have it boneless.

For my simple order of Ayam Goreng, with Kubis cost me RM 12. One of the most expensive Nasi Kandar in my list now. They even BEAT KAYU in terms of price. No doubht, their curry banjir in my plate is fragrant and filled with spices, but the price of it is the killing factor. I would still prefer Pelita as the main choice of Nasi Kandar. Mutton Bamboo Briyani @ RM 16.00 Some may say that this is expensive but honestly, it's not. The amount of spices used and the excellent taste is something else altogether. That is why, despite the place being quite a journey for me, I am still willing to travel all the way just for this heavenly Briyani. The Mutton chunks were so perfect and it comes with some slight gravy. Even the rice was so aromatic and tasty. 10/10 would be my rating for this Bamboo Mutton Briyani and I am truly glad that the taste has been consistent.

Chicken Briyani,13 ringgit + Mutton Briyani, 16 ringgit It sure was delicious. I would totally come back for more. The fact that the rice is steamed in the bamboo towards the end made the meat and the rice moist. The chicken literally breaks apart as soon as you start tearing into it. It is packed with flavor with a hint of sweetness. The mutton was chewy but not overly chewy – sometimes you’d find restaurants serving mutton meat that refuses to disintegrate in your mouth despite all the chewing? Yea, the kind that makes you feel like the chewing is never going to end? Yup, that isnt the case here. Here, you chew and the mutton breaks apart easily. Imagine the delicious, tender meat + flavorful, moist briyani rice … soooo yummy! I sure ate like a pig, finished the whole thing, it was enough to last me till the next morning, no joke.

Indian Rice Meal + Chicken Briyani , 23 ringgit The briyani was tasty. The rice was fragrant and moist. I like briyani rice that are dense, moist because then, you do not always have to add on curry/gravy. Having it on its own allows you to truly appreciate its taste. The chicken and the rice is all cooked together in one big pot.If the rice is moist and dense, imagine the chicken. It literally falls off the bone, I had no trouble peeling off the meat. I at like a pig 🙂 Yup, I did. The chicken Varuval was one of a kind. I think they added some mysterious spice into it, it tasted different from most of the other varuvals I’ve tasted. Different in a very appealing way. Yummm! The Chicken 65 was the usual pieces of fried chicken meat. Yummy. The prawns were awesome. It had an equal mix of sweet and spicy. Delicious and they do give you a generous portion of prawns, not just a few pieces with loads and loads of gravy – the kind you would get in many Indian restaurants. The vegetables were delicious, they also have acar if you guys are interested. Rasam came soon after with a cup of Thairu/Mooru/ Yogurt?

I loved this authentic Penang's Nasi Kandar, just mixed them all up - rice with the spicy, flavoursome and thick gravies to send you to seventh heaven. If you're a big eater, can opt for NASI AYAM BESAR for RM 8.50 but seriously the NASI AYAM KECIL for RM 6 is a huge portion indeed ~ very generous if compared to many others stalls.
  • funntaste.com
  • 2018-04-06 00:00:00+00:00
This particular plate of Nasi Kandar cost RM8.50 as we opted for the bigger chicken. It is certainly not overpriced compared to Kok Siong or any chain Nasi Kandar as the chicken we had was huge. The curries were the best part as it was spicy, thick and flavoursome. The spiciness were indeed unique, nothing like what you’d find in random mamak stalls. The fried chicken was super crispy yet moist and tender on the inside. It is one of the must try when you dine in Zainul Nasi Kandar. The fried chicken we had was really fresh, you can clearly see steam being released when you rip into it.

Sambal Sotong, 5.90 ringgit. I loveeee their sotong sambal, loveeeeeee it! It was spicy and sweet. Yum! I usually tend to leave behind whatever sambal that is left once I have eaten all the squid but this was one of those rare occasions where I proceeded to lick the whole bowl clean even though the squids were long gone, lol. No joke. It was delicious. My only complaint would be that rather than the sotong sambal being overwhelming with sotong, it was instead overwhelm by onions. If they could reduce the onions and instead add on more squids – that would be awesome. After all – the folks who usually order squids are mostlyfolks who are more than willing to pay a little extra $$$.

I really enjoyed my dining experience while savouring my delicious authentic Indian rice. UMAC House is actually a bungalow located in the old government quarters. Nestled within the busy urban town of Petaling Jaya, along Jalan University, it's lovely restaurant to eat, relax, chill for while or destress while sipping a cup of teh tarik or ice lemon tea.

So, this was what I ordered. Basic banana leaf comes with rice + 4 standard selection of vegetables + 2 papadums for a price of 6 ringgit. I added on chicken varuval, 6 ringgit – which lead to a total sum of 12 Ringgit. My friend who accompanied me for the day, also decided to eat banana leaf rice – 6 ringgit + fried banana chips, 3 ringgit + sura puttu (shark fish scramble), 8 ringgit = 17 ringgit. A delicious, wholesome meal for 12 ringgit and 17 ringgit? I’ve got no complains.

Verdict: Prices here are fair, works out to be around RM16 per person. Food is OK, could be better. Nice ambiance and ample parking space.

As a summary, I feel that the food here is fantastic. They all had home cooked taste and none of the dishes tasted like commercial dishes. Do note that food finishes pretty fast here. Even today, we were here at 12.30 noon and even at that time, some of the items were already finishing and they were contemplating if they should top up. Can't blame them as they are relatively new to the restaurant business. So, if you want a good spread to choose from, best to be here around 12 noon. Definitely a place that I would recommend. Food is good, service is fast and the prices are reasonable.

Their Tofu Sambal was really good. Mildly sweet and spicy, the Tofu itself was fresh and as a total preparation, it was very tasty. Similarly, their Mashed Potato was another delight on it's own. If you have been following my blogs for a while, you would have noticed that I would always need to have some curry to go with my rice. Today, that was not necessary as the potato itself went so well with the rice. I would rate both of these at 8/10.
