Seems like a popular cafe on Google, the place is fairly empty for Saturday brunch. Many food and cakes are not available, including poach egg 😥 Nevertheless, the food is pretty good and a quiet environment.

Tuesday, 29 November 2016 Thursdvys @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail My morning class was cancelled, SO GOOOD!!! The lazy us decided to have tasty breakfast before our afternoon class. We choose Thursdvys as it is located along our way to college. Thursdvys is located at TTDI, Kuala Lumpur (Next to Torii). We were greeted upon entering and the staff seated us in the 2pax table. Once seated, she gave us the menu to browse through. You have to order and pay at the counter. I ordered Babas Breakfast Set and Aglio Olio Pasta. A couple of people occupied the cafe when we arrived at 12pm but it was filling up for lunch. The ambiance of the cafe was good, bright and welcoming. They have both indoor and outdoor seating areas for the customer. Breakfast set is served with complimentary coffee/ tea. Flat White was milky and velvety, it's like drinking a milk coffee. Yummy!! Aglio Olio Pasta was super duper yummy. A lovely combination of fresh garlic, shallots, parsley, capsicum, beef bacon, prawns tossed in olive oil. A simple yet delicious dish. Breakfast set is served with Scramble Egg, Beef Bacon, Toast, Sautéed Mushroom, Hash Brown, Tomato and Beans. The scramble egg was creamy and fluffy, beef bacon was good and the mushroom was fresh and flavourful. For me, everything in the place was perfect. Breakfast set @ RM 26 Overall, it was a perfect breakfast for us. Super delicious foods, pleasant service and lovely environment. What can I ask for more? It's just perfect for me. Second visit? A BIG YES for me!!

Banana Fritters, 11 ringgit. I started of with some yummy banana fritters. This was yummy. Crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft, moist on the inside. It had just the right amount of sweetness. Loved it. It certainly would make an awesome dish for tea time.

I think the sweet waffles were more successful and I definitely preferred the sweet ones over the savoury one that we tried. Also, I think I'll do without the add-on condiments (except maybe the fresh fruits) if there's a next time. If I had to choose again, I'd stick to a flavoured waffle with just a side of butter and maple syrup...and nothing else. Although I've only tried the waffles and some snacks, it didn't excite my palate enough to say I want to try more. Their signature savoury waffle may be called Moo Moo.....but I think I'll just moo...ve on along and graze somewhere else instead! Perhaps their new menu of hot food will fare better but I didn't try any, so I wouldn't be able to offer any insight into that.

Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich, 18 ringgit The sandwich was delicious and I don’t know if you noticed – it was huge, yawwww. Literally a case of “I can eat half now and the rest later” situation. Basically, you’d get a large piece of Ciabatta bread with pesto + grilled chicken + tomatoes + cheese. It was surprisingly delicious. Why surprising? because simply judging from the size of the bread to filling ratio, it did not seem to match. However, upon tasting it, it tasted awesome. You’d be able to taste the pesto and grilled chicken just fine despite the thickness of the bread.

My Personal Opinion Overall, I'd say the noodles here are so-so (at least those I've tried) and possibly a decent option for the folks of TTDI in this area. But if put to the test with the many good noodles stalls in PJ, they probably wouldn't do as well. The prawn mee is definitely the better bet here. It's a decent tasting prawn mee but not one that would make me go 'wow' and crave for it. If I live around the area, I probably won't mind dropping by for a bowl of prawn mee but, since I don't, I certainly won't come all the way here just to have it. I came here for the iconic prawn mee but came out enjoying the nyonya kuih stall more.....hihihi! ;)

The Papperdelle Umami XL (RM38.00) on the other hand, had a whole load of fantastic flavors. Pardon me, I'm raving about black truffles again. The papperdelle had perfect folds - not too chewy; not too thick, with a good sprinkle of salted kombu (or known as kelp - I googled). My Personal Opinion Though the yakitori seems reasonably priced from RM5 to RM18 per stick, the fact remains that you'll need quite a few sticks to be full. Imagine you're eating satay, if you need 10 sticks to be full, you'll need 10 skewers of meat...and at an average price of RM10 - RM12 a stick, you do the math, the amount can add up very quickly. Even I can easily down 10 sticks, so you can imagine how many sticks the more ferocious eaters may need. But since the skewers weren't that successful anyway (other than the wings), I'd probably stick to their Japas and donburi offerings with a few occasional skewers. Still a good place to unwind, over the weekend or after work, with a couple of Japas in one hand and a beer or sake in the other! ^_^

Oooo and because of my prior experiences with Nasi lemak, I requested for additional ‘kacang’ and ‘sambal’ and they gave me exactly the amount I needed – to last through to the last mouth. Usually, it would be a case of them forgetting my request or even if they do remember, more often than not, the second serving will be a lot lesser than the first. Not here though, here, when you request for more, they give you more. Overall, a truly satisfying dish. I’d certainly give it a go again.

Overall, the nasi lemak hits the right spot if you're looking to feed on the quintessential nasi lemak platter with homemade flavours and all the works in a pleasant environment. I would certainly like to return to try some of the other rice platters.

We ordered the set for one, just to try it out before trying the bigger set the next time. Honestly, it did not look as pretty as the one we saw online. It's slightly pricier than general shops outside, but it's the environment you pay for. The food is not too bad too, standard cafe pricing. You get a nice piece of fried chicken to go with too!

Kayra Restaurant

46, Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1 Taman Tun Dr Ismail 60000 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Kayra derives its name from keram, which means coconut palm trees in Malayalam, the language indigenous to Kerala and the birth of its name. The inspiration behind Kayra started over 65 years ago with the opening of the first Kerala Restaurant in Johor Bahru in 1949. It was a meeting place for Keralites to connect with their roots, and savour authentic Kerala cuisine. Kayra pays homage to this heritage, and serves recipes handed down through the generations, renowned for its distinct use of coconut – whether grated, roasted, or as a cooking medium. The palate-pampering dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, are freshly prepared and served everyday. Each dish is lovingly crafted and celebrates the true flavours of Kerala. We hope you love it as much as we enjoy sharing it with you.

We really enjoyed how the Salmon Mentai Maki is done. The salmon is perfectly seared till perfection and wrapped beautifully and then topped with the generous pure mentaiko on top. The dish is absolutely good and delicious where the mentai sauce brings up the umami taste of the dish itself.

It was one of those rare Saturday nights when I had nothing on, no parties to attend, and the kids were free as well (usually they hang out with their cousins on Saturday night), so I thought I'd use the Entertainer App and scour around for good deals. The kids had chosen "Italian" as the cuisine of choice for the night, and one of the search results was Livello Uno in TTDI. I knew I'd seen the name somewhere, I just couldn't place it. When I searched the net, lo and behold, it turns out that it's actually been a place I've been meaning to check out, BECAUSE the Chef, is my Instapal, ie, Instagram friend (the modern day equivalent of a penpal I guess), Chef Mashad Pino, who is a celebrity chef who appears in quite a lot of places. So the decision was made, and off to TTDI the troops went.
