We had some small bites for the night too. For beers drinkers, the Mish Mash Roast Pork (RM 30) which is seasoned with 5 different spices might be a great choice. It had a nice balance of lean to fat meat and a slight crisp skin. Dip the roast pork to the different sauces provided for a better enjoyment.

Our favourite here would be their Teow Chew Style Spicy and Sour Soup (RM 12.80). You can to choose the types of noodles and what toppings you like to have. Garnished with chives and preserved vegetable, the soup is the key point that whips up the wow factor. It packs a balanced taste between spicy and sour (you get to choose your spiciness level but medium should be great), and induced a warm sensation on your throat and stomach lining upon gulping it. Somehow, this simple dish managed to squeeze into our list of comfort food!

This is my favourite which is Artisan bread, also the simplest of all. A simple toast with just butter and blueberry jam. The toast is so good that the texture is nice, where the size is also slightly thicker, spread it with butter and bluberry I would go 3 slices of it. One of the problem for travelers or outstation guest that drive will be parking issue as the place here is quite limited in parking space. Price range of this hotel is starting from RM300 onwards.

The Mystery Moon - Century Eggs embedded into a cheese cake with lots of salted egg yolk toppings and deep fried caramelised anchovies toppings. At first, am dropping by with a mixed feeling since his previous recommended cakes oasis at China House proved rather lukewarm- on the Red Wine Pear Cake. However, I kinda have to see eye to eye with him on the richness of cheese factor on the array made available as this cutely cow-themed café. Not forgetting the rather steeper price compared to other bakeries available elsewhere, even in KL itself. But, does it get justified with the taste and product quality? Polo Bun with Butter (菠萝油) – RM4.50, a very typical Hong Kong pastry. The top of the bun was covered with slightly sweet crust while the inner of the bun was stuffed with a piece of creamy butter. In Penang, it is so difficult to get Polo Butter Bun. That is the reason I came to this cafe to try out the bun. It is in fact one of their best-sellers and usually sold out by noon. The top crust was so nice and the bun was soft and warm. Having it with soft and creamy butter was simply satisfying. This bun is perfect when it is served warm.

Another proud creation by Pallet Garden Cafe- Turmeric Chicken Diao Diao Mee... deep fried Turmeric-marinated Chicken served with instant noodles-like noodles. But according to the proprietor, the noodles were custom-made and were different from the ordinary ones. Decked out in absolute old world decadence, Magazine 63 is one of the latest hit and quirky bars in town. Secretly hidden away in Georgetown, it takes some detective skills to locate the entrance of the bar as it is completely concealed from the bustling Magazine Road. The place has got no obvious signage but with a small white flag hanging outside that says 'Alcohol' in Mandarin character. Push the door open and you will be instantly transported back to at least a couple centuries back; the stunningly exotic interior features olden-Chinese-inspired decoration that would douse you in some vintage elegance. Not only that the place is totally decorated according to that time-space, the servers are all dressed in traditional Chinese wear and the intriguing alcohol containers are custom-made according to the theme. For a boozy evening, this place is set to wow and put a smile on the faces of all their visitors; definitely a place worth visiting and seeing.

If you prefer a Western delight, Atlantic Salmon would makes a great choice. The piece of protein is cooked to achieve an even crispy skin, while the flesh is soft. Eat it along with the granny smith apple to give a sweet and crisp texture. It is served along with cod croquette with lemon mayo and wasabi- tobiko.

Jaloux on King Street in George Town, Penang (right next to Wa Coffee Cafe) is touted as the place for pasta. The air-conditioned cafe with a heritage old look was opened recently by the same people behind Cozy in the Rocket at Armenian Street which has since ceased operations. While we were there for lunch, the tables were filled with mostly working locals. Pasta is on the lunch and dinner menu in addition to risotto and several other small dishes of grilled country bread, cold cuts, pork bacon and ham.

Cozy in the Rocket was once known as one of the best places to get good Pasta in Penang but it was closed for redirection few months ago. The guys behind the now defunct Cozy in the Rocket has relocated and opened a new cafe in the Georgetown heritage zone and is now known as Jaloux. Few doors away from Disted Student Hostel (on the same street) is an old-fashioned concrete house but behind the timeworn wooden door is a clean, cozy and inviting space furnished with wooden tables and chairs. The guys behind Cozy in the Rocket brought the much-lauded menu here, offering the familiar Pasta dishes with a touch of European flair. Price points are above average but the quality is set to please.

We were attracted by a peculiar choice in the menu - Roasted Pork Belly (RM 15) quiche. The filling of the savoury pastry was alright, having crispy crust and soft filling but the roasted pork was too hard and dried to enjoy. Perhaps changing into the conventional cheese + bacon topping would be better.

We had the desserts with hot Americano (RM8) and Cheese Coffee (RM13). The latter is warming, rich, and not overly sweet to emphasise the flavor of the cheese. Do go for it as you don’t often see this beverage in town.

M'atural is serious when it comes to Apple Crumble... real Apple is used. The Green Apple was cut and stuffed with custard-like filling and topped with Crumble. It was then baked till golden brown but the crispiness of the fruit remained; safe but straight-forward combination. The sweetness comes from the Honey, a healthy sweet treat that could go well with a cup of Tea.

Among the mains, an interesting choice is the beef bakar, served along with an array of condiments in a wooden congkak set. One will be able to sample a ton of elements: marinated sirloin beef, blue pea rice, kawah curry, homemade kerabu and condiments of local ulam. With sultry hot tropical weather all year long, it should be no surprise that Penang is swimming with amazing Ice Cream. The endless sweltering heat in Penang means non-stop cravings for a good serving of the icy sweet treat but forget the commercial ersatz brands that offer either Vanilla, Chocolate or Strawberry Ice Cream. For 4 years (since end of 2013), The Ais has been quietly serving some of the most delicate and healthy artisan Ice Cream in town. Co-founders Jonathan and Lydia's belief in healthy-eating cemented the core principal of The Ais; all products are made with care and low sugar content. The Ais was merely an online business but has since established its brick and mortar outlet in Pulau Tikus earlier (attached with an organic shop). In March 2017, It has now moved into a new location at Chulia Street and offering more options to its patrons. With more than 40 flavors available (not your usual boring flavors), there will be at least 3 alcohol-based Ice Cream and 16 types of Ice Cream on offer at all times (on rotation basis- you might not get some flavors on certain days); for those who concern, Vegan Ice Cream is also available.

I was first introduced to this cozy café by Mr Cool who has a knack for good café places, where it provide a comfy place to catch up with buddies while indulging in their respective repertoire of house specialties. Ehmm, well, so far his taste has done a pretty good job that has landed me craving for the cronuts from time to time when am back to KL. Bravo!
