Then new in the menu as was told to try this out. Grandma Fried Rice. A different style of cooking method which I kinda miss. Rice is moist yet not too dry as the usual one. Topped with a perfectly fried sunny side. It had been long time that rarely a person will fried a fried rice with long beans. Best way to eat it is a spoonful of rice + a bit of egg + a dash of sambal. A spoonfull like just below.
Char Koey Teow seems to be many people’s favourite. Maybe can share where is your preffered ones.I come across 粿條王 Koay Teow King at Damansara Uptown whom is...
Char Koay Teow with Crab Meat & Chicken Egg, 17 ringgit I did enjoy the Crab meat version. First of all, they give you a generous portion of shredded crab meat, enough to cover the whole dish once you mix it all up. I do not think I’ve tasted crab meat with my koay teow before but i am glad I did this time because it is yummy. It somehow complimented the whole dish. I liked it. Besides the crab meat, the dish also came with 2 juicy, chewy prawns, sweet Chinese sausages, crispy pork lard, bean sprouts, eggs and cockles. I wish more sausages and lard were included in the dish, the lard especially. There were too few to count.
It was sadly lacking in the coveted "wok hei" aroma and in terms of flavor and taste, I'm afraid it was rather ordinary. A pale and lackluster rendition of a beloved Penang specialty. One visit is enough for me.
My Personal Opinion The taste of the noodles was decent by most standards, especially those who don't mind not having the necessary wok hei or aren't looking for the noodles to be charred. For me, those two aspects are critical for a good plate of CKT. Having said that, I did enjoy the fresh, large prawns and the lap cheong...but that's about it. For a plate of CKT of that price, I expected more! The taste has to be way better than that...and it wasn't. Perhaps, I'm a bit harsh with my judgement but I've had better CKT for less, that's why.
Overall, Koay Teow King does serve one of the better char kuey teow in KL or PJ, but I don’t think it’s king of the hill. For the scores of Char Kuey Teow I have scored, check this page. Perhaps, I was expecting more from it, especially since it’s RM12 a plate.
