My tastebuds have been ruined changed so it was not ecstatic like it used to be. But still, fulfilling a craving is a form of satisfaction even if it did not bring about the thrill that you expected.
As usual, noodle of choice is kuay teow. I'm afraid it was not as good as I remembered. No, actually I don't remember. Again, I suspect my tastebuds have changed.
The noodles were super loaded and the broth had a deep flavor. No regrets making this mistake.
At the end of the day, it is just comfort food for the craving of Hokkien Mee in PJ. We don’t believe they offer the best hokkien mee but when you crave for Hokkien Mee, Restoran Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee is one of the few places to visit.
The Hokkien Mee is delicious. This tick noodle is cooked with pork lard and thick soya sauce, added with shrimps, crispy pork skin, and cabbage. It is very rich in flavor, melty sweet savoury in the mouth with a tiny bit crunchy texture from crispy pork skin, cabbage, and shrimp. It is very yummy, especially when I added their garlicy chilly sauce. YUMMM…
The perfect night always consists of amazing companies and delicious meals... Join me with my beautiful friends in eating authentic Kuala Lumpur’s local food...
[Non-halal] The Koon Kee wantan mee in Damansara Utama is known for its homemade al-dente noodles and pickled chillies.
or 3 vegetarian items either with rice or noodles is rm$7, but the dishes I picked today slightly salty today.
Overall, it was a so-so dinner for us. The total bill for the food is RM 16 which I found expensive for the dishes we have chosen
To end the meal, we try their evergreen signature which is a must-try is their Avocado in Thai King Coconut @ RM 16. Silky smooth blend avocado puree which is quite prominent in terms of taste that did not give you the raw skin taste yet a hint fragrant of coconut taste is there. – Recommended!
I had high expectations of the MunCheong Chicken Rice. Inspired from the “Wenzhang” chicken in Hainan, Auntie Sim’s version had poached farm chicken served with rice cooked fragrantly with ginger and lemongrass. Served with chilli dip and a ginger & spring onion dip, this chicken rice may not be the best I’ve had but the wholesome homey flavours evoke a sense of comfort.
The delicate sweetness of minced prawns amps up the gastronomic experience; leaving us revelling in the delightful QQ texture of the Traditional Teochew Prawn Balls (RM35 for 10 pcs/portion) enveloped within an outer layer of crispy deep-fried beancurd skin.
Surprising, the mussels cheese-mai wasn't too bad (at least I liked it most among the 3 plates I order).
Overall, it was an excellent breakfast for us. Delicious Dim Sum after our tired shopping at TTDI Market. The total bill for both food and drinks in RM 45 including service charge and GST.
This dim sum restaurant (withI think there's a 'forever' crowd because all the dim sum here is decently priced (with most around RM4 - RM5)....plus decent portion sizes too....and decent tasting as well. My favourites were the steamed char siew pau, fried sticky rice, fish stuffed root and bacon roll (in that particular order)...hee..hee! 7 branches), Jin Xuan Hong Kong @ Damansara Uptown is always packed, so much so that they’ve set up large te...
Verdict: Prices are slightly on higher side but considering the comfy dining environment and sufficiently good food (though a bit of hiccup on the service), revisit is on the cards.
Fried Noodle was superb. It has a good smoky flavour that we enjoyed it. Noodle @ RM 28
Prawn and Foie Gras Toast (RM28) This was potentially the winner of the day! Innovative fusion dish that proves the chefs could do more than just traditional chinese cuisine. Delicious on its own, the creamy foie gras made a wonderful pair with the crunchy toast underneath.
It was a very big portion of rice (I like!) with many tiny cubes of ox tongue and the wok hei aroma was wonderful. The fried egg as you can see in the background was pathetic.
My main course. Fried beef koay teow which I have eaten twice (and enjoyed) via Grabfood. Oh yes, it was wonderful, hot off the wok. I helped myself to the delicious chili oil. Ah! So good!
Pretty good place for Hong Kong style afternoon tea within Starling Mall.
I'm afraid the wanton mee was not up to the standards of wantan mee that I am used to. It was overcooked and soggy. Besides, the sauce was not quite there and somehow Hakka pork does not seem like an apt accompaniment (at least to me). The soup was just all right with three decent tasting wantons.
Ipoh Sweet Sauce Chee Cheong Fun with Fried Ingredients which came with a fried beancurd sheet and a soup containing a fishball and fried tofu like what I had previously. Except that this time I chose the large portion (4 chee cheong fun rolls instead of 2. Haiz!). Look at that. Pure carbs and sugar. More deadly addictive than cocaine. That is a lot of CCF. Was it good? No need to ask. The soup was very good, a far cry from what I had on my previous visit.
Nasi Lemak at Yitcha Kaw Kaw Kopitiam. With a spot of Kopi C. I did not pin much hope on the nasi lemak but surprisingly I enjoyed it (because of the curry gravy or maybe because I was in a better mood). The rice had a greenish tinge (supposed to be nasi lemak pandan?) but it had none of the pandan fragrance but was heavier on ginger (which I did not mind). And neither did it have any hint of santan.
Can't go wrong with siew yoke and roast duck - lean and fatty meats.
I went to Twins Signature Roast Duck, Damansara Uptown with the intention of eating their delicious roast duck.
As usual I loved the duck, so tender, moist and succulent. The roasted pork was even better than the one I had on an earlier visit.
They sell the usual roast meat with choices of noodles or rice. For the price they charge, I think that you can go to any other less swanky looking kopitiam and still manage to have better chicken rice. The roast meat (pork and chicken) was too disappointing to say the least. Dry, not tender. Maybe that's what some people like but hey, some fat is good. Fat is juicy. Fat makes life dining more bearable.
I was very pleased (and relieved) that the poached chicken turned out tender, moist and tasty. The chicken rice was very flavorful too.
Verdict: We had no complaint on the food we had that evening and certainly one of our option when we crave for chicken rice again.
Verdict: I regret not trying this much earlier and it is definitely the best Char Siew Wonton Mee that I’ve eaten thus far.
I actually liked the soup based Wan Ton Mee with Charsiew, noodle was just right with not salty soup (although I did not try it) plus tofu skins and wan ton and slices of not too bad charsiew. A surprising satisfying breakfast.
Economy Beehoon/Mee section for morning breakfast together with his wife. For early birds, this restoran is a good place for affordable and quick meal
So I mixed the whole lot up and took a bite. Oh dear God. It was super super sweet! Is it me or is the sweet sauce memang very sweet? Flavor wise it was good but the cloying sweet taste really spoiled it for me. I can imagine my insulin level shooting up the roof!
Verdict: Definitely a good place for Nasi Lemak! Both Ayam Goreng Berempah and Ayam Rendang that we had were wonderfully executed, I have no hesitation in recommending Say Yes Cafe to satiate your craving.
The fried chicken was fried just right rendering the exterior crispy and the meat moist and tender. I could tell from the texture that the chicken was fresh. Even the Chinese style sambal I enjoyed. I wished for a more generous portion or perhaps next time I could pay for extra.
Then new in the menu as was told to try this out. Grandma Fried Rice. A different style of cooking method which I kinda miss. Rice is moist yet not too dry as the usual one. Topped with a perfectly fried sunny side. It had been long time that rarely a person will fried a fried rice with long beans. Best way to eat it is a spoonful of rice + a bit of egg + a dash of sambal. A spoonfull like just below.
Char Koey Teow seems to be many people’s favourite. Maybe can share where is your preffered ones.I come across 粿條王 Koay Teow King at Damansara Uptown whom is...
Char Koay Teow with Crab Meat & Chicken Egg, 17 ringgit I did enjoy the Crab meat version. First of all, they give you a generous portion of shredded crab meat, enough to cover the whole dish once you mix it all up. I do not think I’ve tasted crab meat with my koay teow before but i am glad I did this time because it is yummy. It somehow complimented the whole dish. I liked it. Besides the crab meat, the dish also came with 2 juicy, chewy prawns, sweet Chinese sausages, crispy pork lard, bean sprouts, eggs and cockles. I wish more sausages and lard were included in the dish, the lard especially. There were too few to count.
This is my bowl of ala carte mixed pork soup. It was generously filled with thinly sliced pork, two big pieces of kidney, many slices of liver, a few pieces of intestines and stomach, three coagulated blood cubes and two tiny pork balls.
I sipped the soup so that I could take a photo of the contents. Very loaded with liver, kidneys, stomach, intestines, pork balls, pork slices and coagulated blood. They gave me more pork balls today. Previously there were only two. I think they mixed dried sotong into the pork balls because that was what I tasted.
As soon as I saw the Supreme Mixed Soup, I decided to have that. It has got everything - spare parts and all including oh..oh.. coagulated pork blood Ohhh...la..la... very nice! No porky or any unpleasant smell. Even the blood was all right. The soup was also pretty good, light and pleasant tasting. I found the chili dip too spicy hot, so I used it sparingly.
Indeed a strange place for supper dessert. The hor fun is nice, coffee good, egg custard and egg herbal tea okay.
We were taken aback as the chicken was devoid of the taste and aroma of "fragrant oil". The oil and soya sauce used was just bland. It was so ordinary and unremarkable.
Bought 6 egg tarts and kept 3 for other days because there is a bulk discount for buying 6. The cold Vintage Nan Yang Coffee C drink is very tasty!
I ordered chicken hor fun (MYR 11.20+ 6% sst = MYR 11.90 nett). The two prawns did not have the taste of fresh prawns so I did not like them but the soup and hor fun noodles are fine.
Verdict: For an established eatery like Nam Heong, I definitely expect more that this. Food we tried was below my expectation and it would be hard to be convinced for a revisit anytime soon.
The noodles came in a dark thick sticky sauce, topped with pickled mustard (ham choy), peanuts, spring onions, sesame seeds and beef slices, tendon and tripe. Honestly, I was initially worried about the sauce and wished that I had gone with the (more familiar) soup version. But upon tasting, the sauce sort of grew on me as I began to enjoy it (although I must say that the whole thing was rather stodgy). The peanuts gave an added oomph to the flavors as did the pickled mustard.
What do We Like about KBN? -Flavorful beef noodle soup with the tender beef slices -The special sliced beef, full of texture and tasty -The chili sauce goes well with the noodle and beef
Our first time visiting Musuem Starling Mall is better than expected. The towing char siew is a top contender for the best char siew not just in Ipoh but in PJ too. Time to check Musuem Starling Mall for their towing char siew and other dishes!
Overall, I would say there were hits and misses. Our favorites were the Wild Paku with Crispy Shrimp and the Towing Char Siew. The other 3 we won't order again.
What do We Like about Little Happiness 93, Damansara Uptown? Both the soup bases were flavourful and rich in taste. The rice noodles were cooked to just the right texture.
As for future visits, I am not too sure if I will be back. The ambiance does not beckon but I am sure there are others who may find this place (and the food) pleasing.
