The other day I got very hungry and did not bring any food with me. So I made my way to Li Wei @ The Starling and got myself the 3 Combination BBQ Platter (RM27.00). There you go - roasted chicken, char siew and siew yoke. I requested for the leg part of the chicken but was given the breast. The char siew was nice and fatty but the siew yoke was too lean.
There was a good measure of wok hei and the fish slices were fresh, so were the single prawn and small piece of squid. Flavors were good and the portion size was very generous. Yes, I enjoyed this gravy koay teow more than I enjoyed yesterday's curry mee.
So yeah, I like this Li Wei very much and you can bet that I will be visiting again to try the other items on the menu and to revisit my favorites.
Dine-in 13 at 11.12 am on Friday 11 Sep 2020 d178. My portion of special beef Noodles from Pho Real, Starling Mall recommended by PH. The broth was light yet flavourful so I drank all of it. There were many slices of beef and briskets too. Definitely well worth the price of MYR 22.90 nett. No MSG because I wasn't thirsty after drinking all the broth.
Mee Rebus.
Judy's Hakka Lei Char at Foodies' Nest, The Starling Mall's food court with brown rice at MYR 12.50 nett. It is thick, minty and not salty at all because it is supposed to be mixed with the vegetables (chai poh - perserved vege is salty), peanuts and rice.
未来食堂 "Cook" at Foodies Nest in the Starling Mall (Damansara Uptown) offers Lap Mei with Pork Lard rice, Grilled Pork chop, Ginger Chicken and Braised Pork Leg.
Grouper fish fillet mee hoon at MYR 17 nett. It has seaweed, fish maw, deep fried bean curd sheet, vege so it is tasty but with a very light broth.
Ordered a Bento set of Japanese curry rice with fried ika (squid). The portion was just right for a medium eater, although I think for the price, they could have given a few more pieces of squid. The curry was mild and sweet, with soft chunks of potato and meat which went really well with rice, while the squid was deep fried and seasoned well, lending the dish an element of crunchiness. Sides included cabbage salad, miso soup and a slice of watermelon. A satisfying meal for a reasonable price.
I brought my spouse to try the Chee Yok Fun (soup) with egg at MYR 17.50 nett. The broth is super rich just like how PH described it to be. The broth even has the taste of the much sought-after wok hei. It is so thick and rich that I can only stomach one tablespoon of it.
I decided to try something from this stall, Wai Kei. I settled on something safe that I like, Sweet and Sour Pork with Rice. The pork was basically small pieces of meat deep fried until crispy. So it was not meaty, you get more batter than meat.
The chicken, siew yoke and char siew were very decent. The chili dip was super pedas while the ginger paste was more than decent. The soup however was not worth any mention.
I did not finish the mee hoon. There was simply too much. After this experience, nope I am not coming back. Not because of the dead lala but because the soup was not that good.
The rice was dry and hard. I could detect fragrant herbs including bunga kantan in the raw vegetables and the kerisik was fresh and crispy. Just mix everything up and add some of the sambal tumis (which was spicy hot).
If you can only visit Pho Real just once, then you must order either the Hanoi Beef Pho or the Hue Spicy Beef Noodle. I have not tried the Dry-Style Beef Noodle but I trust that it is good too.
I tried the Hue Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle (with add on tendon). Ooh! Very nice! The broth was sourish and spicy.Very appetizing indeed.
My obvious pick here would be the Nasi Lemak with Ayam Goreng Berempah (RM12.90), with add-ons of Eggplant with Sambal (RM2.90) and Sayur Campur (RM2.90) below. The basmati rice was fragrant, not too overly rich, something which I liked, though my friend said that it could do with a hint more santan to boost. The sambal was sweet yet not too spicy, I can have this with almost everything. The fried chicken - was the bomb. It was spiced and marinated well, juicy, and had a fantastic crunch to it. I will never say no to fried chicken.
The only nice thing on the plate was, thankfully, the fried chicken. Crispy skinned, big and meaty.
Dry curry chicken drumstick yellow noodle mix hor fun at MYR 10.90 nett. Finished everything except the yellow noodles because they are hard, almost raw and I don't think they are worth bringing home so I just left them.
