The value meal set is too good to bypass so I ordered a bowl of wanton noodles soup with a glass of iced honey chrysanthemum drink from the set menu. This set included a char siew bao and the total price is MYR 15.90+ (10% service charge = MYR 17.50 nett). As usual I kept half portion of the noodles and the whole bao for dinner.
Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert Restaurant could be a place for a quick meal to refuel you during lunch time. Currently having four outlets in Kuala Lumpur.
Overall, the food we had was enjoyable and reasonably priced for the portion you get. Frankly speaking, I had my reservations before coming here due to the reviews I read on their FB page. But as it turned out, almost everything was more than satisfying and even exceeded my expectations for a chain restaurant. My dining partners, some of them who had eaten at Sheng Kee a couple of times before this, also agreed that the meal experience we had was better than what they had previously.
And another would be their yummy crispy beancurd skin with shrimp Cheong fun (RM7.90). The differing textures to the layers of the dish makes it truly a treat to eat.
One of my top choices is Bi Feng Tang Crispy Beancurd. An aromatic dish of house made egg tofu dipped in the batter made from 7 different type of flavours.A unique and innovative dish, delicately deep-fried to perfection making a delightfully crisp sound when you bite into the tofu. Everyone at the table enjoys the unique and simple Bi Feng Tang Crispy Beancurd, flavourful taste and crispy texture on the outside and smooth and soft on the inside!
We tried their signature and very popular Char Siew Snowy Bun first. Loved it, especially the outside crispy snowy texture. Break it apart and you will find the meat inside to be so soft and yummy. Baked to perfection with a very specific timing of 12 minutes under carefully monitored temperatures and timing, the char siew is freshly made and barbecued in the kitchen ensuring the warmest and freshest taste at first bite.
Yuan Yang Paste-RM 7.50 One of their signature sweet that my friend ordered. The warm black sesame and almond sweet dessert that is placed in a yin and yang figure, nice presentation. Overall taste is acceptable.
Salmon Skin with Pork Floss (RM5.90) The must-have if you happened to visit Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert. Light and airy crispiness, dressed with meatfloss for a touch of sweetness. Addictive snack that you dont want to share.
We checked in one evening and found the menu to be filled with lots of varieties perfect for daily dining. The beverage list features over 18 options and has Hong Kong Chan Char Teng favorites like Milk Tea, Coffee, Honey Chrysanthemum, Yuan Yang, Honey Lemon and more. We had the more unusual ones like Lychee Peppermint (RM5.90), Rainbow Passion Fruit with Soursop (RM5.90), Mango Freeze with Honey Pearl (RM7.90) and Passion Fruit Freeze wiith Honey Pearl (RM7.90). These were really decently priced and come in good sizeable glasses.
All in all, Hong Kong Sheng Kee offers excellent selection of Hong Kong style cuisines without breaking the bank. The wanton noodles are probably the best I’ve had outside of Hong Kong.
