I prefer the steam chicken, its definitely tender, very nice soya sauce and chili sauce to get with it.
Verdict: The chicken rice was above average, compared with the previous chicken rice I’ve posted recently, this undoubtedly fared better. Restoran Satellite definitely more than a decent place for poached chicken rice but there was one thing that really annoyed me that day. Dining with music/songs played at the background certainly can elevate the dining mood but not with earsplitting volume which was really disturbing and a totally put off for me.
Every year, we will go to Ipoh and so excited to try Ipoh Food. Some of the Ipoh food from Ipoh Famous Chicken Rice Chains are a huge disappointment. They can’t even serve a decent chicken rice. This Satellite Restaurant Chicken Rice and 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice are way much better than those shop.
My favourite is the roasted chicken as the skin comes golden brown with juicy flesh under it but now and then, I would opt for the steamed chicken as it soaks up the black soy sauce up nicely. The rice soaks up the sauce and chicken flavour beautifully as well.
The chicken rice is my beloved. Smooth and tender chicken meat which is my favorite with the fragant nice rice. The portion is really big and price wise is reasonable compare to the price charge. Taste: 5/5 Price: RM 6.00/ plate
Eating here was nostalgic indeed. I don't know the breakdown price for my meal, but the total was RM21. For me, its still one of the best chicken rice in Klang Valley. Classic coffee shop ambiance with unpretentious chicken rice, just awesome.
The wait was not long. After all, the lunch crowd was considerably thin. The business only picked up halfway through, close to 1pm; the designated lunch hour for most. The rice did not pass the test. Lumpy with a generally lacklustre aroma, this could not have been the best in Klang Valley, in my opinion. The poached chicken was good, tender yet firm with a bite and without the unnecessary gore of biting into bloodied bone marrows. The sauce was not overwhelming nor extremely salty to steal the limelight from the chicken. But yet …. I was not sure that this deserved to be named as the champ in terms of good poached chicken. Furthermore, the accompanying chili sauce was watery, without a particularly memorable kick.
Ambiance: 5.5/10 Price: 6.5/10 Food: 6.5/10 (non-halal) Verdict: Pretty good steamed chicken, reasonable prices.
Overall dinner was pretty satisfying, but at RM 27 (including drinks and another packet of chicken rice to go), it certainly isn’t the cheapest chicken rice around town. It’s hard to pick a “winner” between Satellite and New Restaurant, but I gotta say that this place oozes out the feel or traditional chicken rice a bit more than the ultra modern approach of New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice. You can’t go wrong with either one though.
