Overall, having sushi at Sushiro reminds me of those days as a student and having sushi at Sakae sushi; affordable sushi for all with basic quality sushi.
Sushiro had a cold option on their menu though, which I was curious about. It was kinda like hiyayakko from a texture perspective, but with a savory seafood taste that came through more cleanly than in the hot version. I might actually order this again.
Food at Sushiro features classic Japanese cuisine and modern Japanese Fusion cuisine, with a focus on zushi / sushi.
The sambal petai and minced meat tofu with salted fish were delicious with rice.
they were pretty consistent with the quality of their cze char and there're dishes here we like enough that we could revisit.
This was sotong rojak. Fried squid with rojak. A rojak that consisted of just sliced turnips, cucumbers and pineapple with a sauce that didn't taste much like the regular rojak sauce.
I guess that nets the other people who don't eat beef.
Steamed egg with salted and century egg was not bad. Quite a bit of minced pork in it.
Service at Doodles is friendly and efficient, and their stream of returning customers during peak hours is a testament to their standard and quality.
There is an element of both novelty and health, and this ‘shake-noodles’ which may remind some of shaker fries, would not have difficulty getting curious onlookers to try.
Anything that didn't taste good on their own makes a good vehicle for the DIY sauces. Will skip these in the future.
Their pizza isn't particularly Italian and definitely not Neapolitan.
Hits and misses, the environment was a plus point. However for the pricing, it was a tad expensive and the location was not very accessible if you were to travel via the MRT line.
In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever received a smile from them while ordering. That’s okay with me though, because the Kuehs are still amazing each time.
I love the prices, seems that inflation has alluded them which is great.
What they had were curried chicken, fish and mutton - no vegetable curry, potato add ons or bread for the curry.
I don't have much references to what could be considered good ones but I though more vegetables would be nice.
Nothing fancy here - just the simplicity of a hearty grilled pork chop or chicken (yes I've been back a couple of times) covered in their nice char and semi sweet marinade with rice and egg.
The surprising find was deep fried chicken skins. These were awesome. Crispy with a little bit of chew and deliciously salty.
Fried wanton was okay. Just okay and nothing more.
Char siew looked old school, red dyed and dry like those from my childhood.
Baba Wins revives truly heritage Peranakan dishes that can now be shared by all.
Magosaburo Cafe is a lovely cafe that delivers excellent Japanese-Western fusion food.
As a great way to combat the local sweltering weather, I am sure that this finely shaved ice dessert is definitely going to be a hit at Dessert Story.
While Dessert Story sounds like they only offer sweet treats, there is a range of savoury delights too ranging from fried noodles to steamed cakes.
We will certainly recommend the Iced Americano especially for Kopi-O drinkers and Green Grapes Flower Tea for non-coffee drinkers.
A popular place for Greek food in Singapore, Bakalaki Greek Taverna is a large Greek restaurant in the River Valley Road / Mohamed Sultan area. Here are some of the food that we tried during a repeat visit.
Bakalaki really is better visited in a large group, when one can share all sorts of stuff, like all of this nicely grilled seafood, not to mention a whole fish that they grilled and filleted for us, following a bunch of meze. I still can't confidently say whether I prefer these guys or Blu Kouzina, but the brightly lit decor is a nice setting for a business lunch.
The space is light and airy and inviting. The food is even better!
One of the best, if not the best curry rice in Singapore, Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice is something that you have to try at least once in your lifetime. Queues start to form very early, and the popular dishes do tend to sell out fast! So, come early to get your hands on a plate of messy goodness!
Hainanese Curry Rice in Singapore, check out Loo’s if you are in Tiong Bahru which will not disapppoint.

Not a bad plate of chai tow kway. I liked that there were some crusty caramelized bits on some of the edges.
Overall, being a true blue Singaporean, such simple and straight forward breakfast is nothing more than comfortable to me. I will not mind having such traditional Cantonese Porridge frequently with so many varieties around.
Perfect for cheese enthusiasts, this dish promises a delightfully cheesy experience. Additionally, the croissant I ordered was impeccably flaky and buttery.
Nice setting for French cuisine; not as formal and with elements of Balinese design. I do like the high tables and chairs although they might not be as well-liked by other diners. Oh well, it's hard to satisfy everyone!
Dishes recommended were the Southern French-style flaky pizza pissaladiere of Provence, the Alsatian tarte flambee made a la minute, and locally-sourced prawns marinated with French-Spanish influence and garlic, and more!
aficionados should definitely give Starter Lab Singapore’s handcrafted sourdough a try; also a laid back place for breakfast & good coffee.
Starter Lab – Bakery at Havelock Road
The high prices are a result of their labour-intensive process and commitment to quality ingredients, both of which are well worth shelling out for.
