A popular place for Greek food in Singapore, Bakalaki Greek Taverna is a large Greek restaurant in the River Valley Road / Mohamed Sultan area. Here are some of the food that we tried during a repeat visit.
Bakalaki really is better visited in a large group, when one can share all sorts of stuff, like all of this nicely grilled seafood, not to mention a whole fish that they grilled and filleted for us, following a bunch of meze. I still can't confidently say whether I prefer these guys or Blu Kouzina, but the brightly lit decor is a nice setting for a business lunch.
The space is light and airy and inviting. The food is even better!
Bakalaki Greek Taverna Martin Road is the new address of this popular Greek restaurant. It is much larger than its previous Tiong Bahru home, but it looks like they have no problem filling it up. Even on a weekday.
Their octopus is tender, and I gobbled up their meze and fried anchovies too. I'd like to come back to try more of their seafood, but need to remember to bring a group of people since this is really food that's best shared.
Moussaka was also not bad, I thought I detected something like goat's cheese in it.
Delicious as the food is, the service, however, is not great right from the start.
Their paidakia was nicely grilled with respectable char marks to a medium doneness.
I was full of hope that Bakalaki would be my new favorite Greek joint in Singapore but i guess not. More misses than hits from this meal and the prices were also on the high side.
If you would love to try Greek cuisine, NAHMJ will recommend BAKALAKI Greek Taverna.
