Another popular choice is dong po ru 东坡肉, braised pork belly in a flavorful sauce. If stir-fried kai lan 芥蓝 is not your choice of vegetable, go for the seong toong yuen choy prepared with century egg and salted egg. Aside from vegetables, you can also order fried omelette with prawns or tofu garnished with golden needle mushrooms 金针菇.

Our favourite here would be their Teow Chew Style Spicy and Sour Soup (RM 12.80). You can to choose the types of noodles and what toppings you like to have. Garnished with chives and preserved vegetable, the soup is the key point that whips up the wow factor. It packs a balanced taste between spicy and sour (you get to choose your spiciness level but medium should be great), and induced a warm sensation on your throat and stomach lining upon gulping it. Somehow, this simple dish managed to squeeze into our list of comfort food!

One of their signature dishes- Beef Tenderloin Stew with Jiang Xi Noodles, was somewhat like dry version of Taiwanese Beef Noodles, ladled over a thick, rich meat sauce. The sauce carried a bold beefy taste but unlike the commonly used Ramen-like noodles, Culinary Exploration uses finer, smoother version. In fact, a little too soft to our liking. It did not come across as a dish that would leave people with a deep impression, nor it was disappointing.... just nothing out of the ordinary

One of the oldest Chinese food joints in Penang- Hon Kei needs no further introduction; the brand is known for serving Pork Noodles and has a newly refurnished restaurant along Lorong Kampung Malabar but not many are aware about its sister restaurant- Hon Kei Campbell Food Corner (汉记小食店). Right behind the main restaurant, Hon Kei Campbell Food Corner is accessible from Campbell Street and offers a slightly different and smaller menu compared to the main branch. Expect to see some Cantonese stir-fry dishes here along with Spicy Soup Noodles and Curry Fish Head. The place is not necessarily more spacious but the fact that it is air-conditioned makes it a more comfortable dining space, especially for the heat-intolerant. Menu is not the only difference here, we noticed the prices are slightly more expensive, probably due to the air-conditioner factor.

Both Hua Diao Marinated Pork Belly Rice (RM 8.90) and Hakka Style Braised Pork Rice (RM 8.90) are truly meant for carnivorous person. When the bowl of rice is served in front of you, you can practically see the glittering surface of the pork glazed by the rich sauces. Noodles are deeply rooted in our culinary consciousness, there is no one size fits all. There are a lot of varieties on offer and they can come in different size, color, shape, texture as well as flavor. Typically, Pan Mee (a type of Hakka Noodles) is served in the shape of thin, round and smooth texture but Ah Ma Pan Mee, a newly opened Pan Mee specialist at 4th Street Club (Tye Sin Street) decides to do things differently. Using traditional recipe from Pahang, the noodle joint offers Pan Mee in its own style. While the soup bases and condiments are similar, the noodles stand out. They come in irregularly fat-round shape with al-dente (slightly chewy and bouncy) texture. The menu is not big but the air-conditioned restaurant offers a comfortable dining space for hungry diners to have a quick fix; definitely a place where fans of Pan Mee should check out.

One of the dish that we miss the most from Taiwan would be their Minced Pork Rice. The portion is relatively small, exactly like the conventional portion offered in regular restaurants in Taiwan and the price is affordable too - just RM 8.00. Feed Me Love's Hot Pot series would satisfy any big eaters, the serving portion is huge with a basket of Hot Pot ingredients as well as a bowl of White Rice. We had the Collagen Hot Pot... the seemingly healthy broth was delicious with a mild vegetable-sweetness but we did not feel a strong presence of the protein (Collagen), as though we were having ordinary healthy Hot Pot broth. The basket of Hot Pot ingredients are fixed but diners have the option to choose between Pork or Chicken.

The facade might not look promising but behind the door is a Chinese restaurant serving home-styled dishes and an array of premium Chinese Tea. Tea Hall (堂茶茶艺馆) is a time-honored restaurant that has been around for years... most of its businesses are by referral, the place sees constant gathering by a group of Chinese Tea-aficionados.
