Here's the location.
The Kolo Mee is good.
I love the noodle used for this kolo mee.
Ginger Steamed Lala was damn delicious, it has a rich flavour and super fresh. Seriously, loved it. Ginger Steamed Lala @ RM 15
Clay pot Flower Crab soup - RM 65.00
Hai Boey Seafood (海尾海鲜) at Teluk Kumbar is one of the more popular seafood restaurants in Penang.
Went to Ong Cheng Huat Seafood Restaurant after almost 20 years ago..........
Since there are only 3 of us, all ladies, so we ordered two (2) of their signature fried chickens. It cost only RM6.50 per chick. It was well marinated and fried to perfection. It is called "chien kae kia" or fried baby chicken in local Hokkien dialect.
Verdict: Revisit? Most probably yes if I happen to be at Butterworth again. I highly recommend the Deep Fried Spring Chicken and Fried Mee Hoon. I also read a lot good comment regarding their steamed Red Snapper, try it out if you have plan to dine in here.
Overall the food at Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood is decent and not as good as it is hyped by Youtubers or things that I read on Google Review. Maybe our expectations are too high due to the high reviews by Youtubers and Google Reviewers.
The chunks of tender lamb with notes of herbs are complemented by a big plate of fragrant white rice and a salad of tomato, lemon, and gherkins. A spoon of the sauce with the rice is just heavenly.
Halab Penang is probably one of the places where you can take someone for an amazing dining experience.
One of the dish that caught our attention is Loy Kee Wanton Noodle as a number of patrons in other tables have it ordered on their table. We did not realized we have tried it previously when they used to operate at Lebuh Kimberly. The noodles were served al-dente and briming with nice sesame oil flavour, although we felt the pepper was overwhelming. On the other hand, we also had the wanton soup and enjoyed it much. The wanton is packed with nicely seasoned filling.
the food here is pretty good though.
Meanwhile, don’t miss the Kuantan Road curry mee served in a soup boiled with a combination of coconut milk and chili. A standard bowl of curry mee comes with a choice of noodles, along with beansprouts, cuttlefish, cockles, taufu bok, prawns, and pig’s blood cubes. If you are really hungry, have the curry mee with extra roast pork.
SeaQueen Restaurant Straits Quay Tanjung Tokong
Overall, the dim sum was good and the ambiance was also very comfortable. There is a multi-storey carpark at Straits Quay. As for the price, I would say it is considered reasonable judging by its location and ambiance. The ingredients used to prepare the dim sum were also very fresh. This is the ideal place for people living nearby to have dim sum without the hassle of going to town.
The Braised Pork On Rice (RM 4.00) in the menu immediately caught our attention. As the name suggests, this simple dish has piece of small braised pork topping the white rice, with its gravy diffuses into the rice slightly. The braised pork has decent proportion of lean and fatty meat, giving a pleasant and not surfeiting greasy feeling but it lacks the potent effect.
I like all the food here, it is tasty but i feel it is too small in size.
Overall a good eat and a recommended one.
Tu Bo Sweei/ Boiled Baby Octopus (Rm 12 for large) is another must-try item in Law Chang Kee. This is a very simple dish by boiling some of their freshly caught baby octopus and topped with some deep fried garlic oil, complemented by their home made chili sauce topped with peanut powder. I was amazed by the crunchiness and freshness of those octopus, they were not over-cooked, just perfect to my liking. Recommended.
Overall, the price at Rutin is on the steeper side but undoubtedly the portion serving here is relatively large and tastes good.
Rutin - Special Order -
RUTIN SENTRAL JAYA - Strongly recommended for breakfast.....
Stir-fried yellow noodles with clams is simplistic. Done with a pleasantly sweet taste of clams and mild zingy ginger kick, the noodle is served with accompanying spicy sambal.
There are many other selections recommended by the crew, namely kappa, sotong and etc but we had a Butter Mantis Prawn (RM 12) instead. The creamy and sleekness were well balanced, giving a rich taste if you take the sauce to complement the white rice.
The 3-flavored Black Pomfret did not impress us from the appearance but it was in fact, skillfully cooked. The flesh was moist and soft while the outer parts of the fish were deep fried to a crisp... slathered with a sweet-savory sauce. It can be dangerously addictive to munch on the crisp sides of the fish or to enjoy the meaty-bite with Rice
Tree Bar is renowned for its wide selection of draft beers, making it a must-visit for beer enthusiasts. The highlight is a promotion offering 10 glasses of beer starting from only RM140 nett, which is considered the best value for money beer deal in Penang. Additionally, the bar presents a Craft Beer promotion featuring Dead Pony Club, Punk IPA, Old Engine Oil, and Lost Lager, with prices starting from RM38 nett. These exceptional offers provide value and variety, appealing to both seasoned beer connoisseurs and those interested in exploring new flavors.
Tree Bar is no stranger to the scene as it's tipped as the largest alfresco bar in Penang and a favourite spot among many to sit back unwind over drinks and bites.
Tree Bar has Buy 1 Free 1 promo during the Happy Hour which is from 12pm till 4pm. Guests can take a Happy Hour midday break and enjoy the promotion for all house pours.
We were amazed by the quality of the 1/2 Roasted Moroccan Chicken... grilled to perfection and the skin was brushed with Balsamic reduction, slightly sweet but with a bitter end (due to the singed skin). The meat was fork-tender and perfectly good on its own but even better to enjoy with Sea Salt or a tangy Thai Green Chili dip.
おまかせ Omakase or "留给我吧" means "Leave it to the Chef"! There are no menu for the Omakase, the Chef presents to you what he/she has prepared for the meal course.
The Pad Thai Seafood (RM 8.90) was impressive. It shares almost 70% similarities with the Pad Thai we had in Bangkok and the heat component was no joke. It put our mouth on fire and we had to take small pauses in between to give some resting period for our tongue.
Pineapple Fried Rice RM8.90 This is the best dish that we ordered. Yummy!
If you are into getting a quick bite during lunch or dinner, then here would be a good place.
During our visit, we had a bowl of Jumbo Curry Mee (RM 13.90). It did not disappoint, as the Jumbo Curry Mee still carry their aromatic curry soup traits, and the addition of various ingredients such as roasted pork, cockles, beancurd skin were complementing the noodles well. Add on some of their signature chili paste for a more spicy sensation.
This place served fine dinning with varieties of good wine. For those that would like to enjoy afternoon tea, there is a section for that too. The Ambience is cozy and elegant. The taste of food here touches all the taste buds sensation. The only word to describe is ‘Devine’.
Duck Confit,
Platform 9 3/4 serves French cuisine in a fine dining setting.
Meat crabs cooked in sour and spicy sauce @ RM 80.00 I love to eat bread dipped in this sauce. Eating crabs cooked in this way can be very delicious but also very time consuming and messing. Anyway, we have the time to enjoy our meal.
Not sure how we landed up here. This was recommended by our driver, and the seafood was indeed fresh and flavours punchy. It was a long drive out from Georgetown though.
Experience a bit of fishing village life and taste seafood straight off the boat for a fraction of Georgetown prices.
A famed fishing village at Southwest of Penang Island (approximately 15 km away from Balik Pulau market), Pulau Betong is home to many fishermen and is known to have some of the best sea produce in Penang. Jia Siang Cafe is one of the more prominent seafood restaurants in the vicinity; having operated for years, it has accumulated an appreciate following. But there is a catch here- you must either reach there early during the day (as soon as it opens) or you will have to buy the fresh sea produce behind the restaurant (for the Chefs to cook). The seafood supplies in the restaurant are rather limited and the demand is usually high, so if you wish to savor some of the best seafood, make your way there as early as possible. Located at the end of the road, Jia Siang Cafe is right next to the river mouth; not air-conditioned, the heat-intolerant might this place a little uncomfortable to dine-in, especially with the sultry hot tropical weather.
Right across the junction to Sungai Pinang and Jelutong, Jason Nyonya House is one of the latest Nyonya restaurants in town. The amiable restaurant has classic wooden house features with staircase at the entrance. It feels very homey, just like any casual dining spot in the neighborhood. The setting does not suggest that it is a Nyonya restaurant... as far as decor is concerned. The name sums it all, the place offers a simple, home-cooked style Nyonya menu. The classics such as Loh Bak, Joo Hoo Char, Inche Kabin, Assam Pedas are there with some additional 'specials of the day' (but we were a little underwhelmed the dish- Assam Prawns was not on the menu). After sampling some of the dishes, we reckon that they lacked the authentic Nyonya touch. Authenticity aside, the dishes were not shabby (if you are seeing the place as a standard Zhu Char place in lieu of Nyonya restaurant).
The Book Sandwich Cafe is a Restaurant and Cafe in the heart of George Town Penang at the Unesco World Heritage Site.
You can either walk in from The Book Sandwish Cafe or The Book Restaurant, it both lead you to the same place as it is connected in the middle, haha !
