Overall, the food at Tuck Kee did not disappoint and it was also very affordable. There was no 5-star service but the staff was attentive as much as they could, but once it reached peak hours, they were quite short-staffed.
The Yu Kong Hor (RM 10) really very delicious, smooth and tasty.
Though long queue, the turnover was fast and I have no complaints about their service for they are friendly and food was quick to be served.
Overall, the atmosphere at Chooi Yue is cool with local families gathering for their weekend tea session ( yum cha in Cantonese ) and the vast variety of items on their menu is enough to make anyone happy.
Maybe one of the best modern dim sum place in Ipoh. Queue is systematic and fast, service as good. Most of the dim sum are delicate and delicious, good quality.
♥Verdict: We were pleased with the food quality and I especially enjoyed the Scallop Har Gao with fresh, bouncy prawns and the addition of celery imparted a bold flavour to it. Steamed Rice Noodle with Shrimp You Tiao also another favourite of mine here. Crunchy You Tiao and shrimps were wrapped with silky smooth rice roll, served with soy sauce, a dish that scored well in terms of flavour and texture.
The are reasons this place is famous: fast, affordable, simple, tasty, accessible (location and hours wise).
The price is on a steeper side considering it costs almost a dollar SGD but its still worth a try if you are in the area.
Overall, if you intend to visit the hawker, you can try all items of the yong tau foo as they are so delicious and they are also very affordable. The dry noodles is the best in my opinion but the rest of the variety is equally good
Even though the taste to me was quite ordinary, it was a good experience to have sank into the local culture, experiencing the environment and food there.
Last but not least, you can’t just tell people that you went to Big Tree Foot (大树脚) without having their signature beverage – Red Bean Ice Smoothies (红豆冰) which costs only RM2.50 per cup. Tastes mild sweet, flaky and irresistible strong red bean flavor, this long-forgotten cold beverage is definitely the best duo with Yong Tau Fu (quench thirst and wash any greasy feel), not to mention it just feels awesome drinking cold stuff under any hot sunny days! 😉
The chicken had some bite like kampong chicken and was fairly fragrant. The taugeh was plump. The fishballs were qq and tasty, and the hor fun smooth and in a savoury clear broth. Not bad.
I personally will give this place a miss as chicken rice back home is one of our unofficial national dish and most stalls can beat this place hands down.
Beansprouts and Chicken. That is probably the major dish that people come to Ipoh to eat. If you come, you have to have it.
We came around 7.30am, so there was no crowd and park just in front. The dry curry noodle with chicken is the specialty, nice thick curry. The soup curry is nice too, but the thick curry sauce got..
For noodle, instead of ordering the usual chicken curry and bbp pork, I ordered koay teow which is flat rice noodle with bbq pork and roast pork with thick curry gravy. This is my type of delicious "messy" curry noodle.
This time, instead of my usual curry noodle (dry version), I ordered this curry noodle (soup version) for a change. This is just as good as the dry version.
The white coffee was smooth and tasted like mocha. The hor fun was really silky and the broth prawny and savoury – as good as I remembered it to be.
The Caramel Custard served in Restaurant Thean Chun tastes so good with the perfect combination of the egg, milk and caramel.
The Custard here is probably one of the best or maybe the best in Ipoh city.
Serviceable dim sum. Nothing out of the ordinary, despite the constant long queue.
Steamed pork ribs – soft, succulent and juicy, has a light salty hint of black soybean, taste great and appetizing.
Overall was a pleasant dining experience and once we finished our food, we proceed to the counter to make payment with our order chit.
This shop remains one of the most popular tourist restaurants in Ipoh. The place is probably too small and too crowded. We didn't dine here, just tapau their egg tart (RM 2.60) and chicken bun..
Nothing beats the Iced Ipoh White Coffee RM2.80 with an aromatic taste of coffee bean, feels even more smooth after ice melts a little bit, goes superb well with Nam Heong egg tart.
Kedai Makanan Nam Heong has several more stalls that sell various hawker dishes, but we have yet to taste any of them.
The curry mee here is not just those like from Penang with loads of “siham” and all. The curry mee is filled with the aromatic flavours of chili oil.
The curry comes with a thick broth, has its own unique distinctive taste and smell of spices, you cant compare this with the KL or Penang version since it is at a different level, definitely worth to taste once in a lifetime if you are avid to curry noodles.
Xin Quan Fang, fondly known as ‘ma ta liu curry mee’ to locals churns out inarguably the best Hainanese curry mee and bean sprouts in town. It is just a stone’s throw away from the famous Nasi Ganja. Funny how two of the most famous food in Ipoh are just across a street from each other.
Steamed Beancurd Skin Roll RM5.20 – two big rolls, remain steamy hot prior serve, soft and juicy while packed with pork and shrimp fillings.
Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant has very extensive menu of Dim Sum and other delicacies.
Reluctantly change plan to Foh San Dim Sum with a not so happy mood. We already know that despite being a highly-mentioned restaurant, the not-so-good comments they have are a lot too. Established since 1971, this award-winning restaurant is undeniably one of the first few eateries that will cross the mind of many when asked “what to eat in Ipoh for breakfast”. Is just like you will go for Pun Chun Duck Noodles when in Bidor. Famous, but, not our first choice
Finally, I get to taste this famous chee cheong fun! Now I understand why so many customers are willing to wait. This is the best chee cheong fun I have tasted so far.
Eating at a tricycle stall parked at the front porch of a family home is a memorable, quaint, authentic foodie experience.
Here's the location.
Tapau salted chicken for tonight. It is pretty alright, though one of the chicken not quite salted properly. The size suited for 3 person.
We brought one box of salted chicken RM21.00 which consists of one nicely cooked and packed whole chicken (free-range size). Once open the paper bag, you can smell the heavy fragrant aroma of the salted chicken and herb (dong gui), pick whichever part you like and just tear it off (easily) then enjoy – well this is our way of having salted chicken! 😉
From one of the front noodle stall, I ordered a plate of roast pork (RM15) for us to share. It was a hearty breakfast for 4 of us that we have to skip lunch.
Have to go early though to catch the Chee Cheong Fun, the Hainanese Pau or dumplings and to try their famous Lenggong Fried Noodles.....
A variety of pau with fillings of pork, chicken, lotus paste, kaya and vegetarian ones. They are also famous for their lor mai kai (Glutinuous rice chicken) and every time when I am there, I see a long queue of people waiting to buy the buns and lor mai kai.
I personally enjoy the mushroom gravy filled with sesame seeds and fried shallots and mushroom slices in it.
Finally I got to savour famous Canning Garden CCF, the 2nd generation is running it though. A good business is worth passing and also receiving.
The Chee Cheong Fun from Restoran Canning Garden would never let you down. Despite having got to queue up to place your orders, the wait is totally worth it. The flavours are so unique and deeply satisfying. If you're in Ipoh, this would be a must visit place for a good plate of Chee Cheong Fun.
Flavourful chicken with thick soy sauce - their signature dish.
Assam curry fish (black pomfret)
A must order - Assam Curry Fish (Stingray) Long beans, brinjals and tofu puffs were added.
这间有道非常特别的食物,是糯米饭加大马特产咖椰酱,老板说是他们自制的,我还跟他们买了一罐。
Ipoh-style chee cheong fun differs from what you can find in KL or places like Penang, in that it features mushroom sauce. This is unlike your Western-style creamy mushroom sauce, but is instead made from shiitake mushrooms, making for a broth with a lighter, darker consistency. The noodles are garnished with sesame seeds and fried shallots.
A great place to hit good renditions of a few Ipoh signature dishes in one go.
The Tau Foo Far (Soya Bean Curd) was curdled to perfection. It was smooth and very soft and silky almost delicate.
The beancurd texture is soft, smooth and very silky that melts directly once lingering around the tongue, apart from that, the ginger syrup also goes superbly well with beancurd and also helps to intensify the aroma of soybean – Overall the experience was excellent and finally makes sense (after trying on our own) for Ipoh Tau Fu Fa able to reign across Malaysia.
Our verdict? I absolutely loved the tau fu fah - it was silky smooth and very soft and I especially enjoyed the fragrant ginger syrup. The soya bean drink was also very good - it tasted extra creamy and was not too sweet.
Restoran Zui Le Xuan 聚乐轩点心楼 is one of the nice places in town that provide a dim sum for early birds. This place is nice, cozy, and airy for dim sum. The place is not too crowded and the varieties of dim sum are complete with reasonable pricing too. Serving with classic and fusion types of dim sum, this is the place for family and most importantly the ingredients are fresh.
Steamed glutinous rice or loh mai kai.
Dumplings I wanted "siew mai" and "har gao"
Last but not least was the Shanghai Chicken Broth Dumpling – RM6.50. This was delightful. The stock was tasty with substantial amount of meat plus the skin was nice and thin.
Dim Sum Yuen是一家新的点心餐厅,在怡保推荐更好的服务,更好的食品质量和展示。
