A Pie Thing is your answer to savoury and sweet pies in Petaling Jaya. This OG pie shop serves beef, chicken, lamb, and veggie pies, and the best Lemon Curd pie in town.
Taste:8/10(Good. I satisfied with the taste of the chicken mushroom pie here however I think they can still improve on the taste of the crust).
The Mashacre version consists of mashed Potatoes, Sweet Peas and laden with smooth, luscious gravy. The choice of our Pie was Chicken Masala... carefully cooked and seasoned Chicken Masala filling encased in a flaky, buttery pastry skin. We were worried if the combination would turn out to be overly salty but to our surprise, it was well-seasoned on the dot. We thought it was very filling but had to leave some space for their sweet varieties
Chunky Steak Pie with Gravy RM13.90 is another must have on the list (based on the restaurant recommendations). This Crusty Pie is loaded with a delightful amount of chunky beef cube and carrot stew fillings that will melt diners mind while unfolding the pie.
If you’re looking for amazing pies in Malaysia then look no further than ‘A Pie Thing’ in Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya! This place has some of the best pie...
Three years ago, when a Pie Thing just started business, I was tempted to try their sweet open faced pies when I tried their savoury pies but somehow did not manage it. Recently I was in the vicinity so I dropped by to try some sweet pies. They are open during lunch times now.
And of course, hello sweet dessert pies! This was my favourite one out of the two dessert pies. And coming from someone who doesn't typically like chocolate, I found that I could brush my dislike for chocolate aside for the Smores pie (RM10.50) is a must try! This dark chocolate pie is topped with marshmallows, then toasted till the marshmallows are CRISPY! Just the way smores are meant to be!
I guess its really a personal preference as I have eaten a better pie before and since they are the first outlet that offer savoury pie, most peeps will consider it as a one stop center and to me, for the price I am paying, I guess I can find a better option. Its just another hype up place. Oh well, some of my friends are regular here.
Overall, it was a satisfying experience at A Pie Thing. It's really difficult to find some decent pies in Klang Valley, so I think I'd definitely revisit this place again. A piece of advice, do go there earlier if you do not want to get caught in the long queue.
Overall Rating: 8/10. Hearty comfort food at its best. I would definitely recommend The Mashacre to go with every savory pie ordered. That said, prices does not come cheap for extra mash, peas and gravy, at Rm6 more. I thought it was worth every penny nonetheless. If all's well goes well, I reckon A Pie Thing could definitely make it as the next best thing. Oh - don't forget to try the amazing S'mores!
