Verdict: Surprisingly for a Japanese restaurant in hotel, the food isn’t charged with “premium price” that I would have expected. Food wise, we had no complaint on the food that we tried that evening
Dragon roll at MYR 40.28 nett with a deep fried prawn in the middle. One piece each and my friend prefers a similar roll at Yuzu - the .Ebi Avocado maki.
50g of grilled sirloin beef with tomato in rich miso at MYR 88 nett. The beef is served rare so I decided to cook it more. I was quite wary of the gas cylinder. I removed all the slices of tomato and put them on a plate. Then I cooked the slices of beef on both sides slightly and switched off the fire when they are just done. The beef is very tender and delicious!
This Salmon Shioyaki (Grilled Salmon with Salt) set lunch costs MYR33 nett. In 2014, this set used to cost MYR23++ which comes up to MYR26.70 nett so the price increment over two years is MYR6.30 which is quite all right since it includes the GST as well.
It was my first time trying the salmon sashimi and avocado salad. I was truly amazed by the freshness of greens and salmon sashimi. The best thing for the dish has to be the specially made salad dressing. I could taste a thousand different flavours like orange, lemon zest, sesame oil, radish, onion and more. Of course, the two other set lunch were equally impressive as well. Each pieces of sashimi just melted in my mouth, leaving a trail of lingering richness on my palate.
Ambience was quite cosy and clean Price: During lunch hour, the price is cheaper than other hours. About RM45 per set. I think the Ocha is free.
We started our lunch with one of my favourite sashimi, fresh sea urchin (生ウニ). Priced at RM80 for half tray, it was very delicious, very fresh and it gave us a melt-in-your-mouth sensation. I loved it!
If you noticed I did not elaborate much on the taste of the food, it is because everything is identical to Rakuzen and who has not eaten at Rakuzen before? The only difference here is price, better quality food, additional side dish, bigger portions and posher ambience. The price at Kura is only slightly higher than Rakuzen so if you do not wish to splurge yet prefer Japanese setting in a hotel, Kura is the place to go. They've also got two very unique bento sets which I hope to try and once I do, I'll post it up on the blog =)
Once again, it is an amazing Japanese cuisine experience at Kura Japanese Restaurant. I really enjoy every experience I had in such restaurant especially when you are served by a Japanese chef. If you were to ask me to compare between this restaurant with my other Japanese restaurant which I have recommended previously which are Kampachi Japanese Restaurant and Fukuya Japanese Restaurant, I will say for quality wise will still goes to Kampachi and for money wise will goes to Kura Japanese Restaurant. With so much dishes that I ordered, I spent less than RM400.
Overall the meal is delighting and the service was also a good one. Taste: Sushi + Mini Udon: 5/5 Grilled Silver Cod Fish Set (Gindrazen): 5/5 Sashimi + Yakizina set: 5/5
