Amongst the mains, Claypot Lou Shee Fun left us with the deepest impression. The texture was amazing... addictively bouncy and the dish was expertly cooked. There were not much ingredients and toppings inside though... except a handful of deep fried Pork Lards
Snack for lunch - Curry Chee Cheong Fun (flat rice noodles) with pork slices, potatoes and beancurd puffs (tofu pok) at MYR 10.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST so total is MYR 12.64 nett) at Oriental Cravings, One Utama. The chee cheong fun was hidden under the potatoes and beancurd puffs. As this was a snack portion, I was able to finish it on my own but was quite full after that.
Pumpkin, prawn and siu yoke fried meehoon... SWOON FACTOR, 9/10. Plump fresh sea prawns from sekinchan, sweet pumpkin and the crispy bits of sesame seed. If this dish isn't on the menu soon, I will personally write and complain to the management. Whoever they may be.
Our Lap Mei Fan from came in a hearty portion, nicely presented, smells nice too. After few bad experience with bland, tasteless Lap Mei Fan, we are glad that Lap Mei Fan in Oriental Cravings is more than satisfying, flavourful, definitely up to the standard.
An ever-popular item here is the Rice Wine Chicken, done the traditional way served with a fried egg in it. Fay told us how they almost had to discontinue this item as at one point, it was difficult to get a regular supply of good authentic home-made rice wine. The commercially-bottled variety simply would not do. Lots of ginger and wood fungus are also added into the claypot resulting in a heart-warming winey soup that’s so good you won’t stop scooping it!
The decor of the restaurant feels classy yet homey, with tables spaced out quite well so that you don't feel claustrophobic despite it being packed with people:
Anyway, this bowl of noodle has satisfied me. The curry was good and sufficiently thick with nice aroma. I had to cleanse my digestive system with a pot of Japanese Green Tea (RM3.50). And the total damage @ Oriental Cravings for 2 items was RM 19.15 including all the plus plus…)
But take a look at my serving of fried rice above, and you’ll understand my exact emotion that moment. Mouth wide open, with a gaping hole and empty brains. =O Nobody said anything about extra-finely chopped ingredients, and 2/3 measly shrimps?! Though credits must be given to the nicely fried rice, fluffy and not sticky, yet with mild ‘wok hei’ but paying RM12 for a plate of fried rice seems ….. absurd.
I must admit the meals were pretty good. Per pax you pay around RM 1x (for single meal). Service is always good there. Most of the foods there are pretty decent. Its one of the shops in One Utama that you can pay a visit.
