Embarking on a Johor Bahru adventure? Get ready to discover the cream of the crop when it comes to accommodations!
【Vlog】在JB的第二天,直接连吃9间老字号餐厅,满满古早味的味道!1)泥鳅王1, Jalan Dedap 6, Johor Jaya, 81100 Johor Bahru, Johor2)亚利太平糕151, Jalan Sutera, Taman Sentosa, 80150 Johor Bahru, Joh...
My suggested first stop is Shoon Huat Bak Kut Teh as JB folks love pork rib soup for breakfast, so why not join them 😄 JB have its own styles of bak kut teh (yes, there are several styles) and Shoon Huat's light herbal style is the most popular, going by their 20+ branches (and counting). This busy shop in Taman Sentosa is the founding shop and flagship. The elegant matriarch is still at the shop, sometimes.
After our last makan trip to JB, I miss it so much and wanted to do it again. Here’s what we ate, do give us your feedback.
For our virgin Food Trail, we will only focus on Johor Bahru precinct (the capital of Johor). KSL Resort hotel was our rest point over 3D2N stay. The ground floors belongs to KSL City, good for shopping and food.
23rd December 2013 (Monday) - After a good night rest, we were ready for another day of food hunt around Johor Bahru! What food would you think of when it comes to having breakfast across the border? Prata is one of my top choice as children loves them too!

This is now my favorite coffee shop in the areas of Jalan Tan Hiok Nee and CIQ for coffee, toast and even chicken rice (more the rice)! Needless to say, a second visit would be coming very soon!
I will return at an earlier timing next time so that I can check out the rest of the interesting coffee beverages like Holy Grape, Mocha Fantasy etc.
Noodles were chewy and despite being drenched with lard oil; it wasn't as tasty with the spiciness overshadowing the good taste of noodles. Saving grace was of course the crispy pork lards, and the slices of lean char siew, which were surprisingly flavorful.
Known as 茶楼 Cha Lao Dim Sum, which literally means a teahouse in Chinese, the prices might not be the cheapest in Malaysia but quality was said to be better! Do note that it can get very crowded for breakfast and my visit was timed at past lunch hours; at about two plus pm.
As usual, KSL Mall is a must visit for the massages and earlier this year; I even booked a staycation at KSL Hotel and Resort!
This cafe was awarded the "Best Chicken Chop in Malaysia" title by The Star newspaper in 2003. They even put it up outside their shop. Not very humble, eh? haha
Their cafe interior is quite well-organised and is so modern and chic with walls and simple decorations which makes it super instagrammable.
Despite the lack of a prominent signboard, I guess that the word "re:" refers to the dessert café I was looking for; Re Patisserie. Thanks to apps like Google Maps, the availability of pictures for the location makes it easier for us to know that we didn't lose our way.
Overall weekend stays at Hyatt Place is pleasant with attentive and friendly service crew.
When the mainstream dining in Johor Bahru gets dull, we went a little bit out of the way and grab an Omakase Meal there.
