Ishin Japanese Dining is located in a bungalow lot along the ever-busy Old Klang Road and it’s one Japanese restaurant that has stood the test of time. Established more than 6 years ago, Ishin remains a popular place to head to for some decent Japanese fares at mid-range prices. Read about my first review of Ishin here.

Being an avid fan of Pablo Cheesetart since its opening in Malaysia, I never miss any of their cheesetart which included the original flavor, strawberry flavor and now the matcha and the latest Cinnapple. These two flavors definitely sounds too good to pass up! How about a Pablo mini Cheese Tart afternoon tea party? Yay!

I had the Dry Wanton Mee with char siew and wantan (RM7.20). I liked the texture and taste of the noodles - very yummy. The BBQ pork (char siew) is also pretty good, slightly lean with a nice caramalised glaze. Since we liked the noodles, so we ordered another plate later - dry wanton mee with char siew (RM7) for sharing.

Very very crowded in the Sunday morning around 10pm. Strangely, eat in is definitely faster than takeaway (1h waiting time serve around 20 take away customers maybe). The nasi is alright, it's more famous for the fried chicken. It's good, but not worth 1 hour waiting time.

Nasi lemak is undoubtedly one of my favorite Malaysian dishes. For me, a great plate of nasi lemak should consist of rich, fragrant rice, sweet-spicy sambal and crispy, juicy fried chicken. Village Park Restaurant is often touted as having the "best nasi lemak in town". During our staycation at Somerset Damansara Uptown, we ensured that we explored the eateries around the area and made it a point to come here.

I finally tried myBurgerLab after 5 years of telling myself “lets go there one day”. The main reason I skipped myBurgerLab when they first opened was because of the queue to get in during the peak of their popularity. But even after the opening of 3 additional branches, there is no sign of their popularity waning. In fact, there was still a queue when we came in for late dinner around 9pm. Luckily, it was a fast moving one.

Their wood-fired Big Bonfire Platter is the way to go (plus it's really a good deal)....with 6 choices of meat/seafood to choose from, you're bound to find something you like. Pair that with a choice of 6 sides and you'll have yourself a truly wonderful meal. But if your eating party is sizeable, best to make reservations ahead of time, lest you end up with al fresco seating which was actually alright except that we had to contend with a smoker (just one) during our meal. But we also got to enjoy 'free' live music from next door (Nicsmann)...hey! ;) On hindsight, we were glad we were seated at the al fresco area coz, when we left, we walked through the restaurant and felt the ventilation could be better inside (I know it's difficult to do when you're fanning the flames of wood-fired cooking....haha) ;D Prices may seem high at first glance but we paid around RM100 per adult for a meal (inclusive of a bottle of red) that fed 4 adults and 3 kids to the brim, so I think that was pretty reasonable. If you're hungry (or greedy) for some succulent charred meat (or seafood), you know where to go when you're in this mall. Bonfire can sure cook up a storm! ^.^

My set lunch: Chicken and scrambled eggs with cilantro lime rice at MYR 16.95 nett with a cup of hot tea and a small glass of lemon infused drinking water. The rice has a bit of an off smell in certain parts and we did feed back to the cafe only to be told that it could be the smell of cilantro which I personally do not think so because to me, cilantro does not smell like that. Nevertheless I ate the rice because it is just a bit of off-smell and I do not want to waste it. I have to say that so far the rice did not do me any harm as far as I can tell.

The Bacon and Brews at Damansara Uptown is the place for bacon lovers to enjoy a dining experience of incomparable creativity and effort. The Bacon and Brews desserts are considerably the cafe flagship. Ordering it could be a little tedious knowing it is going to be a huge sharing portion. Step one is to decide between the crispy waffle (3pcs), liege Belgium Waffle (3pcs), and what we have chosen here, the Shibuya Honey Toast. (Yes, this is the period of the time where I crave honey toast very much.) Step 2 isn’t easy too, but I saved all the trouble doing any thinking at all and went for the Signature Maple Bacon and Rum soak raisin. It said this is a must try serving of house made rum and raisin gelatin and candied bacon gelatin served with beautiful candied bacon, rum soak raisin, drilled with golden maple syrup, and topped with candied bacon bits, butter crumble and chocolate cake crumble.

The Crab Factory was inspired by an adventurous Summer-kissed road trip where we experienced a melting pot of Louisianan culture – the home of Jazz and Blues, the love of celebration and festivals and most unforgettably, the backyard Crab Boil. We were immediately hooked and eager to bring back a taste of our travels to Malaysia to share these newfound tantalising flavours with the discerning local food scene. For how could anyone resist a feast of the freshest seafood, doused in an aromatic blend of seasonings and spices, with all the rustic fixings of sausages, potatoes and sweet corn? Trust us, you might find yourself up to your elbows in drippings at the table, but by the time you're done, there won’t be a drop of goodness left.

Seafood lovers are in for a treat… The pioneer in bringing us seafood with Southern Creole flavours as well as some local flavours, Crab Factory’s concept of dining straight on the table with large seafood boils poured on the table is all about diners getting dirty deliciousness. With minimal utensils, it’s all about savoring glorious seafood with finger-licking yumminess.

// fluffed menu gives off a strong disney, fun animation vibe. fluffed's waffles lean towards the crispy side and its crispiness goes well with the creamy texture of ice cream. will return for lavender blueberry icecream (because where else to get lavender blueberry icecream in KL?!) and to try out other icecream flavours!

Since it was our first time here, we ordered the Sampler where we get to choose 6 ice-cream flavours. We chose affogato, triple chocolate, black doris plum, blood orange and cranberry sorbet, vanilla, as well as fig and honey. My personal favourites were definitely affogato and triple chocolate. Adrena said fig and honey tasted like it has gula Melaka in it. We also ordered crepe with vintage strawberry & cream and waffles with after dinner mint. You can choose your ice cream toppings to go with it but I personally would prefer ice-cream rather than sorbet.

Pudu Chan Fatt Wanton Mee 珍發半山芭雲吞麵 Restaurant

My friend ordered the double combo of char siew and roast duck wanton mee (MYR 11 nett) and a barli lemon drink without sugar (MYR 2.80 nett) and thought that the sauce of the wanton mee contained some kind of vinegar.

During our meal, I noticed a steady stream of elderly folks here. Maybe this older generation is familiar with the good ol' wantan mee taste back in 1996 (before the original owners retired) and are happy to be able to savour it again. However, my experience with this four-decade old wantan mee with a 62-years history ended with me not liking their speciality of wanton mee, char siew and sui kow (which they're famous for) as much. Let's just say the char siew isn't their strong suit. It's funny how a place didn't wow me with their signature dishes but with something else. If I had to rate my favourites, it'd be the lion head meatball noodles first followed by the homemade Chinese pork & liver sausage rice and fried sui kow! ^o^ These, I felt, were the better bets here (at least for me).

When Megan Wong left her job as a Financial Controller and said goodbye to the corporate world, she decided to revive her family’s heritage wanton noodles business. If you are older than me and has been a true-blue KLite, you’d probably know about Chan Fatt Wanton Mee in the Pudu wet market. Megan’s parents – the late Woon Poon and his wife, Lee Yit Yee started the business as a small stall in 1955 (imagine, that’s during the British era!). They sold only wanton noodles with char siu and sui gao – simple food which became a hit and Chan Fatt Wanton Mee became one of the biggest and most well-known eatery in Pudu Market.

Tut's Egyptian Eatery Restaurant

LG333A New Wing 1 Utama Shopping Centre 1 Lebuh Bandar Utama Bandar Utama City Centre 47800 Petaling Jaya Selangor

Who exactly is King Tut? Short for Tutankhamen, this monarch once ruled ancient Egypt over 3000 years ago. Even back then, Egypt was the place to be for traders and royalty, converging traditions and culture from other parts of Africa, Middle East, and Europe. That's what makes our culture so unique today. It's a rich melting pot of diverse influences which you can see in our cuisine too. Imagine a dish made with rice, pasta, lentils, and Middle Eastern spices (link to Koshari Carb Mix). Unlike any other Arab fare, this is Egyptian comfort food at it's finest.

Reasons to visit Tut’s Egyptian Eatery: a chance to try authentic Egyptian cuisine (a first I believe in Kuala Lumpur); affordable pricing; our top picks are the Molokhia Minced Leaf Stew, Koshari Mixed Grain Bowl, Herbal Hot Plate Chicken with Baked Rice and Om Ali Bread Pudding.

Tut - short for King Tut, was a monarch that once ruled Egypt, some 3,000 years back. Fast forward to that afternoon, the meal I had at Tut's was not only fit for a king, but also our very own Malaysian tastebuds. The menu consisted of a handful of solo starters and sides, alongside chicken being in most of their main courses. The combination of ingredients used may looked diverse, but the flavors were not unexpected at all. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the food here, one of the reasons being the taste of most dishes have been tweaked to fit our tastebuds. Also contrary to what I initially presumed, Egyptian cuisine may be similar but not the same from Arabic cuisine. In fact, I thought the food reminded me more of Mexican instead, with a tinge of Mediterranean to boost. On that note, Tut's Egyptian Eatery is possibly the only Egyptian restaurant I know of in Malaysia.

Verdict: 1. Overall, an amazing Egyptian affair with local and Western twists that is ideal for friends and families alike. 2. The dishes here are suited for local taste buds, and I find that the main ingredients i.e. spices used in Egyptian cuisine are easily acceptable. Nothing shocking, all pleasing to the palate. 3. Must try: Koshari Mixed Grain Bowl and Herbal Hot Plate Chicken with Baked Rice
