Inspired by the Chong Qing-Grilled Fish, Fatt Kee Roast Fish has recently gained a lot of attention from netizens due to its gigantic serving with loads of Seafood swimming in the huge pot. The concept is not new- Deep Fried Fish with Seafood (like Prawns, Squid, Flower Clams) and vegetables soaked in a spicy-savory Seafood broth; served in the way similar to Hot Pot/ Steamboat. The spiciness varies and can be tuned accordingly but the heat-intolerant should be extra careful on selecting the spiciness as it can be lip-burning hot. It can be then enjoyed just like an ordinary Hot Pot, with extra condiments like Udon, Vegetables and Seafood to be added. Do note that there are two branches and both locations are near to each other; one is air-conditioned while another one is al-fresco setting. The flavors were fun and the combination was exciting, a place worth visiting.

This very nice claypot fish dish…which was very nice though I wouldn’t mind a little bit more fish and yam and tofu puffs – the next time I order that, I will certainly ask for more of those and maybe, pay a little bit more.

The 2nd thing to grace their presence to our table is the beautiful Pacific oysters (RM7.90 per piece) and they not only limited to the pacific oysters; they have an array of different nationality of oysters which they will feature in their menu! The Black Pepper Durian set we had was for 4 pax and it comes with 2pcs of meaty crabs, 12 pcs of large prawns, 500g of mussels and bunch of vegetables like carrots, corns, potatoes, red onions, and celery. You can choose to add on more seafood such as lobster, giant fresh water prawn, XXXL crab, just to mention a few. The seafood was meaty and plump, especially the crabs. It was easy to peel and the succulent flesh literally slides off the shell. There were lots of mussels and a good amount of prawns presented in this seafood set.

Despite being nothing Louisiana about it, the Creamy Asam Pedas sauce may be their best one yet. Asam pedas pairs excellently with seafood, this is no exception. We had it with the Crab Coma (2 pcs of XXL crab) and found that the spicy and tangy flavor really accentuates the natural sweetness of the crab, or any kind of shellfish. We tried with the Canadian Lobster Rolls with Truffle Oil with the which is sinfully addictive. The Lobster Roll comes amazingly good and delicious where they are served with chunks of lobster meat with the added truffle oil which makes it even better. Sandwiched with the crispy bread and sides with the crunchy potato fries. While enjoying your sandwich, you can dip your chips in the dragon fruit tartar and wasabi mayo sauce which comes awesomely good. My Personal Opinion The big head prawns, being their signature dish, didn't taste anything like those juicy, sweet-tasting freshwater prawns I've eaten in sang har meen elsewhere. In fact, they even look different from some of the prawn pics I saw online. Perhaps the ones offered in their promotion are of a different quality. ^_~ Ok, ok, I guess I can't and shouldn't expect too much from big head prawns priced at RM39.90 for three. So, if you're here, you might want to get those prawns that aren't at promotional prices but you'll have to pay more for them obviously.

The Kam Heong Butter Milk Prawn was served in a claypot. Bubbling upon arrival, the pot of prawns is deliciously aromatic. A luscious thick orangey sauce with lots of aromatics of curry leaves, onions, dried shrimp and spices paired well with the fresh sweet prawns. Best eaten hot, the kam heong sauce is lip-smacking yum, so much so that you’ll end up sucking the prawn shells for every bit of that sauce.

Chili Lobster - MYR158++ (MYR177.5 nett after 6% GST and 6% service charge). This dish does not taste spicy at all. It is kind of sweet. We feel that the lobster in this meal is the largest lobster among our three orders. The deep fried mantou (buns) are quite small.

My Personal Opinion What can I say...everything is fresh, fresh, fresh....from super fresh seafood to freshly made pasta to freshly made kitchen sauces....and I want more, more, more! If you could have just one dish here...make it the Seafood Aglio-Olio (for now)...or just any dish with clams in it. I hope to be back to try more of their dishes...and I'm sure I'll find more to like.

Reasons to visit Bait Bangsar: value for money and attentive service. Everything we tasted today was very good indeed but if forced to choose only one highlight, it would be the Seafood Jambalaya. While Great Delight Kitchen (悦为食) may operate like an ordinary restaurant, it actually runs on a business model like Private Kitchen. Customization of menu can be arranged with prior notice- simply inform the proprietor on the budget and they are able to customize the menu accordingly. The server proudly shared with us that the existing Teo Chew-influenced menu only covers 5% of what the restaurant could actually offer; as long as you can name it, they can cook it. Tables are limited and with its strong customer base, it is highly recommended that you make advance booking before visiting the place (we visited 3 times without booking and were turned down). The damage for this meal was slightly over RM 100 (for 3 pax), not exactly a cheap meal but we were pleased with the quality.

Verdict: For a place that is so crowded and well known, the food is quite good, and service fast too, because the rest had arrived at 6, dinner was served at 6.30 and I arrived at 7.... Overall, their salmon is really good, even the normal salmon is good, salmon belly is just a tad better. But both are really yummy. The truffle mash potatoes is quite good as well. You can park in One Mont Kiara mall, and walk to Fat Fish, save on the parking fee as the Shoplex Mont’ Kiara parking fee is slightly more expensive. Must must make reservation else you risk being turned away just like i did previously.
